David Friend Recital Hall Concerts

March 13 — My Plea — A variety of inspirational contemporary gospel
tunes presented by voice department faculty member Jerome Kyles

backed by an awesome rhythm section lead by music director David

Balfour.

March 29 - Soundjourneys Presents “Abbey Road” — Vocalist/guitarist/
arranger Shawn Madden presents a recreation of the famed Beatles
recording Abbey Road. From Come Together to Her Majesty they will
present the music in detail with their own added twist while preserving
the integrity of the music from the record.

April 2- Storytellers — Voice department faculty Didi Stewart presents her
students performing pop/rock songs by Sheryl Crow, Prince, Paula Cole,
Randy Newman, The Rolling Stones and other contemporary singer-
songwriters. Storytellers performers reveal the stories behind the song
making for a personal, intimate concert experience. Featuring faculty
pianist Alizon Lissance.

April 3- Soo-Jung Kae Masters Recital — Original jazz compositions, 20"
century classical music and free improvisation will be presented in solo,
duo and quartet settings by masters degree candidate, pianists Soo-Jung
Kae. Compositions by John Cage, Anthony Braxton and Soo-Jung Kae will
be performed with special guests saxophonist Charlie Kohlhase, Brass
department chair trombonist Tom Plsek, Chang U Choi, bass and Luther
Grey, drums will be featured.

April 9- Jazz Vocal Series - Faculty vocalist Maggie Scott presesnts
students singing jazz compositions and standards backed by a trio.

April 12- Harmony Department Spring Concert — the Harmony
Department’s annual concert will feature compositions and arrange-
ments of original music performed by members of the department and
special guests. A wide variety of music will be presented, from vocal/
piano duets to saxophone quintet with rhythm section. Latin jazz, main-

stream jazz, contemporary songwriting and other styles will be featured.
