David Friend Recital Hall Concerts

September 21 Birdsongs Of The Mesozoic

Birdsongs of the Mesozoic is a four-piece electrified modern music
ensemble formed in 1980. Instrumentation consists of piano, synthe-
sizer, guitar, and saxophone/flute, with occasional percussion and
computer sequencing. Fans of interesting, innovative, and original music
should not miss this special concert. Of particular interest to the Berklee
Community: Guitarist Michael Bierylo is an Associate Professor In the
Music Synthesis Department. Saxophonist Ken Field is a Berklee Alum
(1980) A CD of the 1001 Real Apes material was produced by MP&E
Chair Bill Scheniman. Birdsongs new recording, Petrophonics was mixed
by Berklee Alum Frederick Rubens (1999) with assistance from Bill
Scheniman on two of the 14 tracks.

September 25- The Higher the Fewer : String Quartets & Piano Quinet-
This concert of compositions by faculty composer/pianist Marti Epstein,
alumnae Rosey Lee and Assistant Chair of the Piano Department,
pianist/composer Stephany Tiernan features performances by a faculty
string quartet with Melissa Howe and Mimi Rabson on violin, Sandy Kott
on viola and cellist Arnold Friedman.

September 27 — Twos, Threes & Fours — Faculty vocalist Lisa Thorson is
joined by pianist Cho Yoon Seung, bassist Dan Greenspan and drummer
George Schuller for a performance of jazz originals and standards with
arrangements by Gismonti, Jobim, Shilansky, Thorson, Schuller and
others.

September 28 - Jack Jarrett & Louis Stewart-Piano Duo - A concert of
classical repertoire for two pianos presented by the new piano team of
Jarrett & Stewart. Works include Danzon Cubano by Aaron Copland;
Sonata in D major by W.A. Mozart; Five 19t Century Waltzes by Jack
Jarrett; Fantasy for 2 Pianos by Louis Stewart; Linaraja by Claude
Debussy; and the Sonata for 2 Pianos by Francis Poulenc written in 1953.

October 2- Ballads and Blues — A solo jazz/blues piano recital presented
by faculty member Suzanne Davis will feature originals and compositions
by Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, Bob Dylan and Ray Charles.
