JOHN LEWIS AND HANK JONES

w5

John Lewis and Hank Jones, two of the world’s most respected jazz
pianists, combine two different yet complementary styles of musicianship .
in concerts. Lewis performs with dramatic understatement while Jones
displays a more flamboyant style yet always with control.

John Lewis is best known as the composer/arranger/pianist and
founder of the classic Modern Jazz Quartet. He has also worked with
such stars as Dizzy Gillespie, lllinois Jacquet and Miles Davis. Renowned
critic and historian Leonard Feather has called Lewis “one of the most
brilliant minds every applied to jazz.”

Hank Jones, whom Feather has described as an “inspired modern
pianist,” has also worked with some of the jazz legends such as Benny
Goodman and Ella Fitzgerald. Indeed, because of his stunning virtuosity,
he has worked with literally all of the great jazz bands and soloists in the
country. He is, of course, part of the famed “Brotherhood of Jones
Brothers,” composed of percussionist Elvin Jones and trumpeter Thad
Jones.
