John Lewis is best known as the composer/arranger/pianist and founder of the classic Modern Jazz Quartet. He has also worked with such stars as Dizzy Gillespie, lllinois Jacquet and Miles Davis. Renowned critic and historian Leonard Feather has called Lewis “one of the most brilliant minds every applied to jazz.” Hank Jones, whom Feather has described as an “inspired modern pianist,” has also worked with some of the jazz legends such as Benny Goodman and Ella Fitzgerald. Indeed, because of his stunning virtuosity, he has worked with literally all of the great jazz bands and soloists in the country. He is, of course, part of the famed “Brotherhood of Jones Brothers,” composed of percussionist Elvin Jones and trumpeter Thad Jones.
