David Friend Recital Hall Concerts
April 26 — 1:00 pm — Contemporary Middle
Eastern Ensemble — Student ensemble per-
forming music from the Middle East under
the direction of faculty member Craig Mcrae.
April 26 — 2:30 pm — The Music of James
Brown Ensemble - Under the direction of fac-
ulty member Kenwood Dennard, this ensem-
ble features the groundbreaking and epoch-
making music of James Brown. This concert
will include student-generated arrangements
and improvisations on several of Mr. Brown's
most influential compositions.
April 26 — 4:00 pm - Latin Jazz Ensemble —
Student ensemble under the direction of fac-
ulty bassist Oscar Stagnaro performs Latin
jazz.
April 27 - 1:00 pm — Advanced Small Band
Ensemble - Post Bop and contemporary jazz
compositions by John Coltrane, Dave
Liebman Mike Brecker and Freddie Hubbard
will be performed by this six piece ensemble
directed by Ed Tomassi.
April 27 - 2:30 pm - Brazilian Jazz - Faculty
member Fernando Brandao leads this student
ensemble performing jazz from Brazil includ-
ing compositions by Caetano Veloso, Milton
Nascimento and Brandao.
April 27 — 4:00 pm — Contemporary Fusion
Ensemble — Melodious fusion compositions
by faculty trumpeter Tiger Okoshi will be per-
formed by his student ensemble.
April 27 - 7:30 pm — Dennis Montgomery -
Student ensemble performs under the direc-
tion of faculty member Dennis Montgomery.
April 28 — 1:00 pm — Music of Ornette
Coleman Ensemble — Under the direction of
faculty member Jeff Galindo.

ensemble performs 20th and 21st century .
music. The ensemble performs vocal and >
instrumental works by Ravel, Stravinsky,
Gould, Rodrigo, Bernstein, Ibert, Rorem, and
Tull.

African Pop music as well as originals by the
ensemble will feature an exceptionally hard
grooving drum/percussion section under the
direction of faculty member Bob Pilkington.
April 29 - 2:30 pm - Roots of Country Music
— Music from Hank Williams, Buck Owens, .
Bill Monroe will be presented in both tradi-
tional and contemporary style arrangements
under the direction of faculty member John
McGann.
April 29 — 4:00 pm - Bluegrass Ensemble -
Two ensembles taught by Dave Hollender
playing traditional and contemporary vocal
and instrumental bluegrass and acoustic
music of Bill Monroe, Chris Theile, Flatt &
Scruggs, Aubrie Haynie, and originals. e
