Berklee Performance Center Concerts

SPRING 1992

FOUR SCORE AND SEVEN—This concert will feature an evening of
music originally written for film and television by Film Scoring De-
partment faculty members Jonathan Klein, David Spear, Michael
Rendish, and Don Wilkins presented in a format featuring multiple
keyboards, woodwinds, brass and rhythm section. Musical styles will
include jazz, Latin, fusion, and new age with guest performers from
the Berklee faculty.

THE MIDWESTERN SKY II / THIS WOMAN’S WORK—Vocalist
Lynette Asheim will lead an 11-piece ensemble performing country,
blues, and pop music by Patsy Cline, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and
Emmylou Harris. In the second half, rock, blues, and country music
by Bonnie Raitt, Kate Bush, the Judds, Journey, and others will be
presented by vocalist Laura Jean Mergl and a large ensemble featuring
faculty guitarist Bob Stanton, vocalist Porter McClister, and bassist
Mike Mallory.

AN EVENING WITH THE BERKLEE RAINBOW BAND—Faculty
composer/arranger/trombonist Phil Wilson presents the Berklee
Rainbow Band playing original jazz and fusion compositions.

VOCAL SUMMIT / VOCAL JAZZ ENSEMBLE—The 12-voice a
cappella vocal ensemble, Vocal Summit, under the direction of Voice
Department faculty member Bob Stoloff, opens this evening with a
performance of jazz, pop, and classical music as well as original
works by group members. Then, faculty vocalist April Arabian
presents the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, eight voices and a sextet, perform-
ing contemporary arrangements of jazz classics and standards.

THE JAZZ FUSION SMALL ENSEMBLE / THE JAZZ FUSION BIG
BAND—Faculty composer/pianist Marc Rossi presents student com-
positions from his classes Jazz Fusion Compositions and Arranging for
Small Ensemble, representing a wide variety of styles within the jazz
fusion idiom. In the second half, faculty trumpeter/composer/ar-
ranger Brian Lewis directs the Jazz Fusion Big Band performing
contemporary rock, jazz, and Latin styles in arrangements by writers
such as Bob Mintzer, Matt Harris, and Lewis. Student arrangements
from the Writing for Large Ensemble composition course will also be
featured.
