Berklee Performance Center Concerts

SPRING 1992

FOR BILL / SLIPPIN’ AND SLIDIN’—Assistant Chair of the Guitar
Department Mike Ihde presents music written and/or arranged by the
late Guitar Department Chair William Leavitt performed by an all-
faculty guitar ensemble as well as the premiere performance of a new
tuning system invented by Leavitt for Hawaiian guitar allowing for
previously unavailable voicings. In the second half, faculty guitarist
Jim Kelly and the Sled Dogs—faculty members Jim Odgren, alto
saxophone, Dave Clark, bass, Bob Tamagni, drums—preform original
jazz and blues.

ASHKARA MUSIC PRESENTS: VAVOOM / THE BALKAN BOOGIE
BROTHERS—Guitarist Eran Kendler presents original fusion music
for his sextet. In the second half, ethnic fusion, based on folk tunes
from Bulgaria, Romania, and Yugoslavia, arranged for a seven-piece
ensemble will be presented by bassist Andreas Fliflet with special
guest Bob Moses on percussion and Ole Matheson, tenor saxophone.

TRANSITIONS / ON CUE—Trumpeter David Boato leads a sextet in
a program of jazz originals and compositions by Enrico Rava with
special guest faculty trombonist Hal Crook. Then, Mercedes Rossy
presents modern jazz compositions and arrangements by Seamus
Blake and Rossy performed by a quintet.

RICHIE BEIRACH with LASZLO GARDONY—Renowned jazz pianist
Richie Beirach performs in a concert with Laszlo Gardony as part of a
major residency sponsored by the Piano Department and funded in
part by a grant from the New England Foundation for the Arts and
Meet the Composer, with additional support from the Massachusetts
Cultural Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
