Berklee Per formance Center Concerts

SUMMER 1991

THE RED CRESCENT—Faculty synthesist Jamshied Sharifi and
Berklee alumnus saxophonist Ole Mathisen present an evening of
ethnic-influenced jazz from their recent recording. Featured will be
three of Boston’s premiere percussionists, Ben Wittman, Purnell
Satumino, and Russ Gold as well as alumnus Michael Rivard on bass.

SIMPLE, MERELY CHANGE THE GRAVITATIONAL CONSTANT
OF THE UNIVERSE/DREAMLAND ORCHESTRA—In the first half,
faculty composer/arranger/trombonist Bob Pilkington presents the
Continuum Jazz Brass Band performing original arrangements of
jazz and blues by a variety of composers. In the second half,
“Dreamland Orchestra” features original compositions and arrange-
ments for contemporary big band by faculty member Darrell Katz
performed by the Jazz Composers Alliance Orchestra.

FIVE-WEEK WELCOME CONCERT—To kick off this summer’s Five-
Week Performance Program, assistant directors Dave Weigert and Robert
Doezema present a two-part concert featuring many of the program’s
faculty. Drummer Weigert opens the concert with fusion compositions
by John Scofield, Mike Stern, and Bob Berg performed by his sextet with
five-week faculty members Daryl Lowery, tenor, and Bert Cotten, guitar.
In the second half, guitarist Doezema presents “Blues after Dark,” with
faculty members Herman Johnson, tenor, Rick Considine, drums, and
Dennis Montgomery, piano and vocals.

THE BILL MOORE BAND—Five-week program faculty guitarist
Tom Stein presents the Bill Moore Quartet performing classic rock
hits from the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

THE POWER HOUR—Faculty trumpeter Wayne Naus presents an
hour of high energy Latin, funk, and jazz for big band featuring
many faculty soloists.
