Berklee Performance Center Concerts
SPRING 1990
MANY BAGS LOOK THE SAME — Woodwind Department Chair-
man Matt Marvuglio presents an eclectic, electric concert of jazz and
fusion music featuring Woodwind Department faculty, students and
alumni including saxophonists Bob Bowley and George Garzone and
pianist Alex Ulanowsky.
ONE NIGHT AT MARDI GRAS/THE BERKLEE THELONIOUS
MONK ENSEMBLE — Faculty vocalist Cheryl Hodge presents her
six voice student ensemble The Boppers performing jazz vocal styl-
ings influenced by the Hi-Los and Lambert, Hendrix and Ross. In the
second half, faculty guitarist Rick Peckham directs an acoustic sextet
performing the post Bebop swing of Thelonious Monk.
BRASH BRASS BASH — Brass Department Chairman Tom Plsek
presents a diverse mixture of styles and idioms in an evening covering
virtually the entire spectrum of brass music. Included on the program
will be late Renaissance music for multiple brass choirs, J.S. Bach
music for piccolo trumpet, an excerpt from Janacek’s 1925 Sinfonietta
for trumpets and trombones, early and contemporary jazz, music
for a large trombone ensemble and excerpts from a new piece by
Malcolm Goldstein written especially for Tom Plsek and Phil Wilson.
Featured performers include faculty members trombonists
Phil Wilson and Tony Lada, trumpeters Jeff Stout, Greg Hopkins and
Susan Fleet, as well as horn player Dennis Leclaire and tuba player
Greg Fritze.
