Berklee Performance Center Concerts

SPRING 1990

IMPRESSIONS/KEN CERVENKA QUINTET —Faculty vocalist
Bob Stoloff presents an a cappella performance in a variety of
styles including traditional, jazz and funk by Rimsky-Korsakov,

Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and others, as well as some originals.

He will be joined by special faculty guests, pianist Russ Hoffman
and vocalist April Arabian. In the second half, faculty trumpeter
Ken Cervenka leads an all-star faculty quintet through

a program of mainstream jazz by Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea
and others. The quintet includes alto saxophonist Jim Odgren,
pianist Christian Jacob, bassist Bruce Gertz and drummer
Marcello Pellitteri.

T.R.1.O.—TIM RAY’S IRRELEVANT OUTING/THE BACK BAY
BRASS JAZZ ORCHESTRA —Faculty pianist Tim Ray opens this
concert with modern acoustic jazz originals and compositions by
Bill Evans, Thelonious Monk, and others, performed by his trio.
Then, faculty trombonist/arranger Ben Elkins presents the Back
Bay Brass performing big band jazz.

LOUIE BELLSON—Renowned percussionist/arranger/composer
Louie Bellson will direct a specially selected Berklee student big
band in a program of his arrangements of music by Duke Ellington,
Benny Goodman, Bob Florence and Bellson.

PAQUITO D’RIVERA —Saxophone great Paquito D’Rivera will
perform Latin and jazz compositions with a large student ensemble
specially selected for this event.
