Berklee Performance Center Concerts
FALL 1989
OF THE SOLID ROCK—THE SAVE THE SOUL MISSION
BAND/RICK PECKHAM GROUP—Faculty member
Mark McGrain presents his group in a concert of “neo-Salvation-
Army-style-chic” originals for horns and rock rhythm section.
He will be followed by faculty guitarist Rick Peckham leading a
quintet through a program of contemporary electric and postbop
jazz featuring compositions by Wayne Shorter, Thelonius Monk,
Ornette Coleman and Billy Strayhorn.

FALL TOGETHER—The annual Jazz Composition Department
concert, directed by Ken Pullig, will feature special guest artist
trombonist/composer/arranger Bob Brookmeyer in a variety
of instrumental settings with compositions by Greg Hopkins,
Bob Pilkington, Ken Pullig, Bruce Thomas and Bob Brookmeyer.
IT’S ABOUT TIME/VICTIMS—Original funk fusion music will
be presented by drummer Kiyotaka Takiyama and his quartet. In the
second half, vocalist Chip Haizlip offers a program of originals and
covers in pop and rhythm and blues styles. Arrangements will be
by Jon Dryden and Paco Ojeda with saxophonist David DeLeon as
featured soloist.
BASIC BLUE/PARRIS IS BURNING—Faculty trumpeter
Bill Scism leads his sextet in a program of blues in various styles. In
the second half, composer/arranger Richard Evans presents vocalist
Rebecca Parris in a program of jazz and pop styles performed by his
large ensemble.
