Berklee Performance Center Concerts

FALL 1989

TAKE FIVE/CRYSTAL LIGHTS —In the first half, faculty saxo-
phonist Herman Johnson opens the concert with jazz originals
and standards performed by his quartet with faculty drummer
Marcello Pelliteri. Faculty saxophonist Eugene Vinyard, who
concludes the concert, presents the music of Hank Mobley

and Donald Byrd performed by a quintet with faculty pianist
Katy Roberts.

THE SLED DOGS BURY THE BONE —Faculty members
Bob Tamagni, drums, Jim Kelly, guitar, and Jim Odgren, saxo-
phone, present “The Sled Dogs;” a quintet performing original
blues and jazz. They will be joined in the second half by the
Sled Dog Horns with special guest Professional Performance
Division Chairman, alto saxophonist Larry Monroe.

MASS-LOVE-FIESTA/TWO TRU-AMONG THE RUINS—
In the first half of this two-for-one concert, faculty guitarist
John Dirac leads a large ensemble in a performance of con-
temporary jazz styles with special guests faculty saxophonist
George Garzone and drummer Bob Moses. In the second half,
faculty guitarist Lauren Passarelli presents original rock and
pop compositions for her sextet.

DOUBLE BASSES—Bass Department Chairman Rich Appleman
opens this concert with music for jazz trio. In the second half,
faculty bassist Danny Morris presents jazz and rhythm and blues
for his Soca Groove quartet.

JOHN BABOIAN AND FRIENDS—Mainstream and contem-

porary jazz originals and standards will be performed by faculty
guitarist John Baboian and his septet.



DR. CARROT —Faculty drummer Steve Wilkes presents elec-
tronic percussion in instrumental and pop formats with special
guest vocalist/composer Ginny Fordham.

ELECTRONIC WIND STORM/JEFF FRIEDMAN BAND —

Original electronic pop music for woodwind controller, syntho-

phone, and rhythm section is presented by saxophonist Randy

Felts in the first half of this concert. Then, faculty guitarist Jeff

Friedman offers original progressive music for his quartet which

includes faculty trombonist Lennie Peterson. ‘

KATY ROBERTS AND FRIENDS/FRED LIPSIUS QUARTET —
Faculty pianist/composer Katy Roberts opens this concert with
jazz compositions by Woody Shaw, Joe Henderson, and others for
her quintet. In the second half, saxophonist Fred Lipsius presents
his quartet performing jazz originals.
