EMERGING

Emerging is a multimedia performance involving the
improvisation and communication between the movement
of live dancers, and visually synthesized patterns, ambient,
electronic West-African and Afro-Cuban music and live
percussion, triggered and manipulated by a live musician.
New Skills Acquired
• Sound Design: Serum, Massive, Ableton’s Wavetable and Operator
• Audio Engineering and Mixing: How to use a console, patch bay,
microphones, mixing techniques, etc. How to record, mix and edit in
Pro Tools and Ableton.
• Music Technology: Creating customized Max patches. Utilizing Max
for Live and Ableton for live performance with the Softstep
• Vjing and Digital Media Software: Adobe Premiere, Adobe After
Effects, Resolume Arena 6, Cinema 4D
• Djing: How to use Serato Pro, and Pioneer to create DJ sets
Innovative Aspects
• Being a dance accompanist (musician) that provides customized
visuals, sound design, electronic music compositions and live
percussion for modern and post-modern choreographers/dancers.
• Fusing traditional West African Sorsornet and Afro Cuban Bembe
rhythms with electronic music. (Sorsornet from the Baga People in
Guinea. Bembe Mantanza from Mantanza, Cuba)
• My style and technique of playing the djembe and doumbek
together (fusion of conga, djembe and doumbek drumming
techniques).
Future Plans
• Move back to Chicago, apply for the ACRE Artist Residency to
continue developing my project Emerging (teach myself Touch
Designer).
• Rejoin Ayodele Drum & Dance Company
• Resume my profession as a dance musician/educator/performer
• Prepare to apply for the graduate/internship program offered
through Skywalker Sound in June 2020
• Travel to various parts of the world to learn different types of
percussion. Ex. Live in Guinea, West African for 4 months and
study Duns- Duns and Djembe.
