A

Change
in
Music
Peter
Connolly
Concept
&
Tribute
• “Ragabop”
• The
forthright
6tle
of
the
piece
of
music
which
provided
perspec6ve
to
this
project.
(Composed
by
guitarist
Prasanna)
•
This
piece
perfectly
captures
the
concept
of
fusion.
• A
tradi6on,
transfigured
by
modernity,
or
vice
versa.
A
Brief
History
• Raised
in
Spain
and
lived
in
Ireland;
ambiguous
sense
of
belonging.
• However,
always
felt
a
strong
connec6on
to
both
heritages,
especially
through
tradi6onal
music.
Process
•
Compara(ve
Analysis:

Composi6on
–
Crea6ve
• -‐
Arrangement
–
Analy6c
• A
demonstra6on
of
the
connec6on
between
influence
and
crea6vity
when
wri6ng
music.
Welcome
to

Repertoire:

1
–
“Tulla”
Original
• The
piece
to
begin
with
is
an
arrangement
of
a
tradi6onal
Irish
tune.
• The
6tle
itself
is
a
tribute
to
the
original
piece
of
music
–
“The
Tulla
Reel”
A.K.A
“Cooley´s
Reel”.
Structure
• The
idea
begun
with
a
groove,
specifically
for
a
jazz
rhythm
sec6on.
• The
groove
in
9/4,
provides
a
simple
displacement
for
the
melody.
• The
Arrangement:

–
“Rounds”
Creative
Approach
• This
piece
was
wriSen
in
January
completely
fresh,
i.e.
not
based
on
a
previous
original
idea.
• Concep6on:
Structure
1.
“A”
sec6on.
2.
“B”
Sec6on.
3.
Solo
sec6on.

Takes

analysis
3
–
“La
Drova”
Conclusion
• The
most
significant
point
to
be
made
is
that
whatever
the
process
of
crea6on
may
be,
the
product
will
always
be
a
fully
original
and
personal
statement
of
iden6ty.
• A`er
reflec6ng
on
my
own
progress
regarding
composi6on,
I
have
concluded
that
one
should
crea6vely
search
for
that
personal
statement
that
will
mark
a
significant
change
in
the
music
of
today.
