David Friend Recital Hall Concerts

October 10 — PLE Presents Harmonium - The Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble
presents American composer Vincent Persichetti’s rarely performed song
cycle Harmonium in its entirety. The cycle consists of twenty songs for
voice and piano on texts from American poet Wallace Stevens collection
also entitled Harmonium including; “Thirteen Ways of Looking at a
Blackbird,” “Domination of Black,” and “Six Significant Landscapes”. The
ensemble performers are faculty member Robin Ginenthal, soprano and
Lisa DeSiro, piano.

October 11 — Take Me to the Blues - Blues standards and blues-influ-
enced original songs are presented by faculty vocalist Jeannie Wolff-
Gagné. Joined by faculty members David Cowan, drums, Steve Heck,
piano, Danny Morris, bass, Adrianna Balic, Jude Crossen, Didi Stewart,
voice and guest artist Charlie Wolff, guitar, Ms. Wolff-Gagné will perform
originals and songs by Sippie Wallace, Etta James, Bill Withers and the
Allman Brothers.

October 15 — Wondering Why? — Faculty vocalist Lisa Thorson will be
joined by pianist Tim Ray, faculty bassist David Clark and drummer Luther
Gray in an evening of original and mainstream jazz compositions and
arrangements by Ray, Thorson, Shilansky, Schachnick, Mingus, Monk and
more.

October 16 — Dave Clark - Jazz quartet led by faculty bassist David Clark.

October 17 — Just Duet - Faculty pianist Bruce Thomas is joined by faculty
bassist Michael Farquharson for a concert of original compositions as
well as standards.

October 18 — Blues Concert — A concert of Chicago blues featuring music
by B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Willie Dixon and Edgar Winter will be performed
by a six piece blues band with guest artist on harmonica under the
direction of piano department faculty member Suzanne Davis.

October 22 — Greg Hopkins/Eugene Friesen - Tre Corda features faculty
members Eugene Friesen on cello, Greg Hopkins, trumpet and former
faculty member Tim Ray, piano performing original improvisations and
compositions.
