Berklee Performance Center Concerts

February 17 - Trichy Sankaran - Percussion Department presents visiting
Artist Trichy Sankaran. Professor Sankaran is a world-renowned percus-
sion virtuoso, Indian music scholar, and composer. He has concertised
widely in India, South-East Asia, Europe, Australia and North America. In
addition to his usual traditional settings, he has performed with
Gamelan, Jazz, Electronic and African music ensembles and has
concertised on four continents with Nexus and World drums.

February 18 - Antonio Hart in Concert - Berklee alumnus Antonio Hart
brings his group to the Performance Center as part of Black History
Month Activities. Mr. Hart has released a number of albums as a leader
including the Grammy nominated Here | Stand on Impulse. He has also
recorded with Nat Adderley, Cyrus Chestnut, McCoy Tyner, Robin
Eubanks, Slide Hampton, roy Hargrove, Dizzy Gillespie and Terence
Blanchard.

February 22 - Bass Department Student Concert - Under the direction of
Department Chair Rich Appleman, and Assistant Chair John Repucci, the
following bass students will perform: Aldemar A. Valentin’s Latin Jazz
Group;”The Cool Grape Goodness”- Alex Evans, bass, David Fronz,
drums, Scott Elson, guitar.; Marco Panascia,bass; Jason Mendelson Jazz
Group; Piano/Bass jazz duo with Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee bass; and
Vladimir Samardzic and his Latin/Fusion group.

February 23 - The Paul Stiller Band - Faculty vocalist Paul Stiller is joined
by fellow former Vox One members and current Berklee faculty Jodi
Jenkins and Yumiko Matsuoka as well as vocalist Tom Basket, bassist
Mike Rivard, percussionist Jerry Leake and drummer Eric Kerr in a
performance of original pop/rock songs which draw from blues, jazz,
gospel, folk and world music styles. Group and solo improvisation pieces
will also be featured.

February 24- Write of Spring - Under the direction of Jackson Schultz and
Ken Pullig, this concert features the writings of faculty from the Jazz
Composition department performed by an all-faculty band with varied
instrumentation from 10 piece group to larger ensembles. Special guest
pianist, composer and arranger Jaki Byard will have a composition
performed and Eric Mingus will be guest vocalist on Jeff Friedman’s
arrangement of Charles Mingus’ tribute to Duke Ellington “Duke
Ellington’s Sound of Love.”
