BURNING PARTY VOL. IV/REAL TIME BAND— Rock fusion
in a quartet setting is presented by drummer Shunji Tanaka in
Burning Party Vol. IV. featuring compositions by Yu Nobuhara. In
the second half guitarist Kevin Barry presents the Real Time Band in
a concert of blues-oriented jazz rock fusion for quintet with compo-
sitions and arrangements by Barry and Dave Limina.
TEQUILA SUNRISE PARTY/INCHIN’ AWAY —Senior electric
bassist Norbert Marius presents original modern electronic jazz for
quartet in Tequila Sunrise Party. In the second half, jazz standards and
originals are presented by saxophonist Todd Martin and his quintet
with special guest faculty trumpeter Ken Cervenka.
RADIO 2000— Faculty drummer Steve Wilkes presents original
pop/rock by the sextet Radio 2000.
MMRRPH GOES MOUSING/BROKEN METER— Pianist/
composer Hitoshi Ibuka opens this two-for-one concert with a
program of original rock and funk performed by his quartet. In the
second half saxophonist Andrew Clark presents odd meter fusion
for a small group featuring compositions and arrangements by
Clark and Geoff Gee.
GREEN SALAD/BRO JAM I11— Original jazz fusion for large
ensemble is presented by guitarist Atsushi Shibata in Green Salad.
In the second half, electric bassist Vincent Leffler leads a quintet in
a program of jazz fusion originals and compositions by Miles Davis
and John Scofield with special guest, guitarist Al Pitreili.
ON MY OWN/HOT WATER— Pianist Cheong Leong Chuah opens
this two-for-one concert with a program of original straight-ahead
jazz for quintet. In the second half, electric bassist Markus Fritsch
presents Hot Water, a program of funk, fusion and Latin compositions
by Fritsch, Marcus Lonardoni, Chick Corea, David Sanborn and others
performed by a nine-piece ensemble.
QUIMBIAMBA — Percussionist Michael Ringquist presents a
program of Afro-Cuban and Brazilian music for a large ensemble.
BACK BAY BRASS AND THE CHARTEATERS —Faculty
composers/arrangers Richard Evans and Ben Elkins are joined
by special guests—faculty members Roy Okutani, trumpet, and
Barbara London, flute— for an evening of big band jazz.
TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS—5-WEEK BLOW-OUT (I MADE
IT, 'M ON MY WAY HOME) —Directors of the Five-week Summer
Performance Program Rob Rose, Dave Weigert and Bob Doezema
present specially selected ensembles performing in a variety of styles
from rock to bebop, highlighting a full final week of performances by
students in the program.
