David Friend Recital Hall Concerts
April 23 — Vardoshuweiner/Spirit Jazz featuring Carolyn Wilkins - En-
semble department faculty member bassist Josh Davis directs his group-
drummer Bob Weiner and pianist Vardan Ousepian— through a program
of standards and originals performed in sections of free improvisation,
contemporary grooves, swing, and baroque continuo evening of contem-
porary jazz.
Then the SpiritJazz ensemble features the words and music of pianist
vocalist Carolyn Wilkins performing fresh treatments of popular works by
jazz masters Duke Ellington, Horace Silver and Mary Lou Williams. &
SpiritJazz includes faculty members Bill Thomson, saxophone, Herman
Hampton, bass, Larry Baione, guitar, Angelamia Bachemin, percussion
with Patrick Charles drums.

April 24 — Brazilian Music with Fernando Brandao Sextet - Ensemble
department faculty members showcase their performing, composition x
and arranging skills as they direct their groups in an evening of contempo-
rary jazz. Flutist Fernando Brandao presents original Brazilian music and i
compositions by Egberto Gismonti, Maruicio Einhorn performed by his
septet including facutly bassist Oscar Stagnaro.
April 25- The Berklee Reverence Gospel Ensemble - An evening of
contemporary and traditional gospel music performed by Berklee’s
Reverence Gospel Ensemble directed by faculty member Dennis Mont- o5
gomery lll. Berklee's small gospel ensemble, Overjoyed, will also per-
form.
April 26 — Winston Maccow/Hip Hop Ensemble- Ensemble department
faculty member Winston Maccow presents his student ensemble in
performance as part of Ensemble Week activities. Then the Berklee =S
student Hip-Hop ensemble performs under the direction of percussion
faculty Angelamia Bachemin.
April 30- Serenade to Music by Ralph Vaughan Williams — The Concert
Choir, under the direction of Voice department faculty member Anne
Peckham, will perform two major choral works: Mozart's Laudate
Dominum and Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music. Featured soloists
include Yumiko Seshita, Katharine Heaton, Monica Yngvesson, Michelle £
Ko, Claudia Giutierrez, Judy Jones, Chris Chatham, Joe Faulder, Vasco
Hexel, and Will Robertson. David Shrewsbury accompanies on piano.
