CONCERTS
Spring 1982
Asante Sana — Directed by Tyrone Jefferson. A concert of music that
is of Afro-American origin, featuring original compositlons arranged
by Tyrone Jefferson.
Joe Cohn/Les Arbuckle/Steve Johns/Ed Felson — An evening of
jazz standards, bebop and blues is presented by faculty member Les
Arbuckle and his quartet.
The Harry Miller Space Heater Band / Danish Design — A divided
program. The Harry Miller Band, an electric/acoustic quintet, playing
composed and improvised jazz-related music will perform in the first
half. The second half presents Danish Design, directed by Niels Lan
Doky, featuring alto saxophonist Donald Harrison and compositions
by Danish composers and American residents of Denmark such as
Thad Jones, Ernie Wilkins, Kenny Drew and others. Compositions by
Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock will also be included.
Unction Plays The Berklee Again — Under the direction of Ray
“Mondo” Schmarder, Unction returns to the stage with its own rock/
new wave concept. 3
Mean Machine — Directed by Wendy Swedberg and Jeff Leonard. A
concert of Big Band Jazz featuring stock arrangements and Band
member originalsincluding original works for small band by co-leader
Jeff Leonard.
Family and Friends — Faculty member Jim Kelly leads his group in a
program that features vocalist, Meg Kelly, pianist, Dick Odgren, gui-
tarist, Jim Kelly, and drummer, Bob Tamagni.
Merv DePeyer — Pianist Merv DePeyer returns to the Performance
Center stage with a concert of contemporary jazz originals. DePeyer, a
member of the group “Touch,” never fails to present a musically intri-
guing evening.
Jan Jarczyk — The first half of the concert presents Composer/
Pianist/Trombonist Jan Jarczyk in a program of forward looking jazz
in a duo setting.
Bottle Baby Boogie — Faculty member Mike Ihde directs “Flat Rats
and Sail Cats” in a program of Country and Western music.
Percussion Unlimited — Berklee College of Music Percussion Depart-
ment Percussion Ensemble will perform a contemporary percussion
chamber repertoire and Department Chairman Dean Anderson will
perform some solo percussion works.
The Well-Tempered 32nd NOTE, featuring “Juice” — Dedicated to
the memory of Roberto Petaccia, drummer Rodney Smith directs this
concert of original rock/fusion featuring compositions by Didier
Lockwood and Herbie Hancock.
