Berklee Pevformance Center Concerts

SPRING 1992

THE JAZZ FUSION SMALL ENSEMBLE / THE JAZZ FUSION BIG
BAND—Faculty composer/pianist Marc Rossi presents student com-
positions from his classes Jazz Fusion Compositions and Arranging for
Small Ensemble, representing a wide variety of styles within the jazz
fusion idiom. In the second half, faculty trumpeter/composer/ar-
ranger Brian Lewis directs the Jazz Fusion Big Band performing
contemporary rock, jazz, and Latin styles in arrangements by writers
such as Bob Mintzer, Matt Harris, and Lewis. Student arrangements
from the Writing for Large Ensemble composition course will also be
featured.

GUITAR NIGHT—Guitar Department Chair Larry Baione presents an
evening of jazz, rock, fusion, and bluegrass music for a variety of
guitar ensembles including faculty member Lauren Passarelli in duet
with Robin Stone; Bret’s Frets led by faculty member Bret Willmott; a
quartet led by student guitarist Marek Dykta; and a bluegrass duet by
Porter McClister and David Rawlings.

CHORD SCALE MADNESS / THE BERKLEE JOHN SCOFIELD
ENSEMBLE—Faculty member Jackson Schultz presents the best
student compositions and arrangements from the Writing with Chord
Scales courses in a “little big band” setting. In the second half, faculty
guitarist Rick Peckham directs a six-piece ensemble performing
compositions of John Scofield including some selections from his
upcoming Blue Note recording Grace Under Pressure.

SONGWRITERS NIGHT—Faculty member Bob Weingart presents the
winners of the Songwriting Department’s annual songwriting contest,
performed by the writers and other students in a variety of settings
and styles including pop, rock, folk, and country.

EAR TRAINING DEPARTMENT CONCERT—Under the direction of
Assistant Chair Greg Badolato and faculty member Brian Lewis, the
Ear Training Department will showcase the talents of its faculty
members in a variety of settings including vocal performance, jazz,
and jazz fusion.
