July 1 - Alma Group: South American
Contemporary Music

Faculty flutist and composer Fernando
Brandao presents his quintet Alma
("Soul") with Evan Harlan (accordion),
Fernando Huergo (bass), Keita Ogawa
(percussion), and Claudio Ragazzi
(guitar). With a unique instrumen-
tation and repertoire, the quintet
explores contemporary Brazilian and
Argentinean music. The band mixes
originals and edgy arrangements of
compositions by Egberto Gismonti,
Hermeto Pascoal, Astor Piazzolla,
Pixinguinha, Guinga, Jacob do
Bandolim, and many more.

July 7 - Dan Pugach Quartet

The Dan Pugach Quartet is composed
of an international cast of top-level
musicians from Berklee College of
Music. This talented group of art-

ists has worked together in various
capacities for the past few years and is
now focused on performing its origi-
nal compositions as well as inventive
arrangements of the standard jazz
repertoire. The group is already play-
ing in venues in Boston area and get-
ting ready for a tour in Japan

July 13 - Berklee Tower of Power
Ensemble

The Berklee TOP ensemble performs
the music of the would famous funk
and soul group Tower of Power. The
ensemble consists of six vocalists, eight
horns, and five rhythm instruments.
The challange for students is to per-
form the music as close to the record-
ings as possible. Since the group's
creation in 2000, Berklee faculty
member and ensemble director Wayne
Naus has personally transcribed and
arranged the music library. The group
is one of Berklee's most prestigious
ensembles.

July 15 - The Monterey Jazz Festival's
Next Generation Jazz Orchestra

The Next Generation Jazz Orchestra
is a superlative collection of advanced
high school jazz musicians who will
perform carefully crafted arrange-
ments and compositions before they
embark on an international tour.

July 24 - Tarulli & Lappin

Faculty members Scott Tarulli and Don
Lappin share the stage for a night

of original, rock/fusion instrumental
music.

July 28 - Daryl Lowery Instant!Groove
Regarding the band's debut CD Jazziz
magazine wrote "Daryl Lowery and
Instant!Groove specialize in the funky
soul-jazz grooves commonly referred
to as 'acid-jazz.' The rhythm section is
elastic, mid-tempo patterns aid excel-
lent solos...resulting in a sound akin to
John Scofield's A Go Go CD."
