Build Thee More Stately Mansions was written by Gordon Young
for the re-dedication of St. John's Church in Windsor, Ontario.
The text is by Oliver Wendell Holmes. The piece is essentially
in ABA form: the B section provides a contrast to the A section
and adds a bit of mystery before the tempo revives.
Adoramus Te,_Christe (Let Us Praise Thee, Christ Our Lord)
is attributed to G. P. da Palestrina, who is considered by many
to be the most important Italian composer of the late Renaissance
period.
Psalm 1 was composed in 1974 for the cheir of the First
Presbyterian Church of Dansville, New York.
Lamb of Godby John Rutter is taken from his Music for the Holy
Eucharist. Mr. Rutter is a contemporary British composer.
Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Thy Peace) is a traditional round in
three parts.
Psalm 92 was written by Randy Crenshaw while he was a student
at Berklee in the early 1980's. This piece combines a beautiful
melody with interesting and contemporary harmony.
Geographical Fusue , by the 20th century German composer
Ernst Toch, is considered to be the prototype of all pieces
for spoken chorus. It stresses; the "production of musical
effects through speech." The articulation of sounds, particularly
that of consonants, adds to the sometimes percussive effects.
One by One People Come, Sing Together is a lively rhythmic piece
by Chris Dedrick and arranged by John Coates, Jr. Mr. Coates
is a fine contemporary pianist and writes well for the piano
as well as for voices.
And Now a Word From Qur Sponsor features several commercials
from the last decade, including Kennelration, Ultrabrite toothpaste,
Coca Cola, Doublemint Gum, Schafer beer, and Armour hot dogs.
Like to Love, Like to Sing About Sunshine is another upbeat number
from the Dedrick/Coates tollection.
