June 14 - We Are There! - We Are There! A
pre-Independence Day concert, celebrating
the American Art Song with Aaron Copland’s
Old American Songs and Charles Ives’ from
114 Songs with performers faculty vocalist
Robin Ginenthal, soprano and Lisa DeSiro.

June 21 - Gail McArthur’s Big Do! -
Saxophones Gail McArthur presents modern
jazz originals for her quartet with special
guest Nina Ott.

June 22 - Two Continents-One Vision -
Faculty members Rich Greenblatt & Gilson
Schachnik perform Pan-American jazz for
vibes, piano, bass and drums.

June 23 - Joyce's Samba — Faculty vocalist
Joyce Lucia presents Brazilian jazz by Luis
Bonfa, Ferreira, Tom Jobim, Milton
Nascimento and others. Featured musicians
include Alfredo Cardim, piano, Jose
Pienasola, bass, Bob Kaufman, drums and
Les Arbuckle, saxophone.

July 6 - Nina Ott - Faculty pianist Nina Ott
leads her Latin jazz quintet in a program of
all original material.

July 11 - Acid Reggae Xperience - Faculty
organist/vocalist Matt Jenson and his
dub/neo-soul band, the Acid Reggae
Xperience, will present a concert mixing live
musicianship with electronic textures.

July 13 - Katahdin's Edge - Faculty bassist
John Funkhouser presents his progressive
jazz piano trio, Katahdin's Edge, which fea-
tures, blends jazz improvisation with electric
sounds. This hard hitting, all original, pro-
gressive, rock-influenced jazz trio, consists of
Willie Myette, piano; John Funkhouser, bass;
and Mike Connors, drums.

David Friend Recital Hall Concerts

July 14 - Mitch Seidman Rick DiMuzio and
Tony Germain - Originals and jazz standards
will be performed by faculty guitarist Mitch
Seidman and his group in a unique combina-
tion of guitar, saxophone, and piano.

July 18 - Doug Johnson Trio - Piano
Department Faculty member Doug Johnson
will lead a trio which will iclude alumni,
Jodan Perlson ondrums and Evan Gregor on
bass. The concert will include original com-
positions and arrangements of jazz stan-
dards.

July 25 - Soul Sax - Faculty saxophonist
Randy Felts presents a tribute to bluesy saxo-
phone giants King Curtis and Junior Walker.
Faculty members Lenny Stallworth, bass and
Mike Ihde, guitar, will hold down the rhythm
section and the faculty horn section will
include Lin Biviano and Bill Scism, trumpets
and Daniel lan Smith and Berke McKelvey,
saxophones. Percussionist and drummers
Steven Barbosa and Martin Vasquez add their
Latin Percussion and gospel/sould singer Leee
Mitchell will sing several tunes.

July 27 - Hey Rim Jeon & Friends — Original
and standard jazz will be performed by facul-
ty pianist Hey Rim Jeon and her trio plus
horns.

August 1 - Piano Students of Edward C.
Bedner

August 4 - Quintet East plays the Music of
Along Came Betty - Five Week Faculty mem-
ber pianist Bain Smith presents the music of
“Along Came Betty,” a Monterey California
based jazz quintet. The group tips its hat to
Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers but con-
tinues exploring the byways of post-modern
Hard Bop.
