April 12 The Berklee Vocal Jazz Ensemble/Mirror Image—Voice
Department faculty member Art LaPierre leads this five-voice plus rhythm section
ensemble in a program of jazz compositions by T. Monk, S. Rollins, J. Mandel, and
others with featured guests Close Harmony. In the second half, the 10-voice Berklee
Vocal Summit, directed by Bob Stoloff, will perform a varied program incorporating
musical styles from jazz to the classics. This a cappella group specializes in “sponta-
neous improvisation” and creatively integrates music, theater, and movement.
Tonight's performance includes arrangements of compositions by Sweet Honey in
the Rock and Michael Jackson as well as traditional music from South America, Italy,
Russia, and Slovenia.

April 14 International Folk Festival—In its eighth year, this special event,
sponsored by the Performance Studies Department and the Student Activities Office,
will feature 10 ensembles representing Brazil, China, France, the Balkans, Venezu-
ela, Cuba, Mexico, India, Krgyzstan, and Japan playing the music of their native
homelands. Following the performance, everyone is invited to a party in the Dining
Hall where food from around the world can be sampled.

April 19 Professional Writing Division Awards Concert

April 20 The Berklee Concert Wind Ensemble—Under the direction of
Composition Department Assistant Chair Greg Fritze, this ensemble of 45 wood-
wind, brass, and percussionists will perform music by Karel Husa, Aaron Copland,
John Barnes Chance, and Percy Grainger. The concert will feature 1994 Wind
Ensemble Composition Award winner Devon Cox in his composition “Music for
Winds and Percussion” and 1994 Concerto Winner Kazuaki Nihonyanagi performing
“Concerto for Piano and Winds” by Igor Stravinsky.

April 21 The Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra—Renowned faculty
trumpeter, arranger, composer Herb Pomeroy leads the most prestigious ensemble
in the college in a program of contemporary big band music.

April 25 Oh Lord, You Take Control—Ensemble Department faculty
member Dennis Montgomery III directs Berklee’s Reverence Gospel Ensemble in a
program of traditional and contemporary gospel music featuring arrangements by
Donald Lawrence, James Moore, Dennis Montgomery, and others will be performed.

April 28 Singers’ Showcase—In its 11th year, the Performance Division’s
Yo Team Productions presents Singers' Showcase. This presentation will feature nine
of Berklee's finest vocalists including Jonathan Royal, LaQuinta Brown, Joe Freel,
Elizabeth Withers, Stefanie Kelly, Deanna Dellacioppa, Myron Davis, Angela Perry,
and Megan Gass performing the music of Stevie Wonder, Patti LaBelle, Oleta Adams,
Joe Cocker, Toni Braxton, Shawn Colvin, and many others in a variety of instrumen-
tal settings and arrangements written especially for this event.
