Berklee Performance Center Concerts
FALL 1987
AN EVENING WITH THE BERKLEE RAINBOW BAND —
Faculty trombonist/composer/arranger Phil Wilson directs this
octet through an exciting program of original fusion music by
band members J.B. Bocle, Donny McCaslin, Gene Shimosato,
Koichi Osamu and Wilson.
THE DETROIT BAND DOES BOSTON—Some of Berklee’s finest
student instrumentalists and singers, directed by Performance Studies
Department faculty trombonist/arranger Hal Crook, will give a preview
of some music they will be performing at the National Association of
Jazz Educators convention in Detroit. Compositions by faculty mem-
bers Jim Odgren, Ken Zambello and Hal Crook as well as the music of
Motown and Thad Jones will be featured.
FALL FRESH ON ME—The Berklee Reverence Gospel Ensemble,
under the direction of pianist/vocalist Dennis Montgomery III with
faculty advisor Orville Wright, will perform traditional and contempo-
rary gospel music with selections by Edwin Hawkins, Darius Brooks
and others.
THE COLLEGE SINGERS IN CONCERT/TOGETHER AGAIN—
In the first half of this concert Voice Department Chairman
Kenneth Greenhouse conducts the twenty-four-voice College Singers in
a program of twentieth century choral music, vocal jazz and pop tunes
featuring composers Stephen Paulus, Gerhard Krapf, Richard Rodgers,
Jule Styne and Gene Puerling. Special guests include faculty members
Herman Johnson, saxophone, and Bob Stoloff, drums. In the second
half, faculty vocalist Mili Bermejo is joined by Ensemble Department
Chairman pianist/vocalist Orville Wright for a program of jazz compo-
sitions by Michel Legrand, Red Mitchell, Fred Hersh and others per-
formed by a quartet with bassist Dan Greenspan and faculty drummer
Marcello Pellitteri.
THE BACK BAY BRASS JAZZ ORCHESTRA —Faculty trombonist/
composer/arranger Ben Elkins leads the Back Bay Brass in a program
of original big band jazz.
TAKIN’ CARE OF BUSINESS 88— THE JAZZ/ROCK
ENSEMBLE —Rhythm and blues and the music of Motown will be
featured in this concert by the dynamic Jazz/Rock Ensemble under the
direction of Performance Studies Department Chairman Rob Rose and
Yo Team Productions faculty Ken Zambello, Camille Schmidt and
Walter Beasley. Compositions by Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye,
Stevie Wonder, John Lee Hooker and others will be featured.
