David Friend Recital Hall Concerts
October 10- Ladies Sing the Blues — An intimate cabaret evening of
blues, torch songs and sweet soul music with faculty vocalist Didi
Stewart, Joe Mulholland, piano, and David Clark, bass, performing
favorites by the great ladies of blues, soul and jazz.
October 11- Rick Peckham & Tony Gaboury — Jazz standards and origi-
nals will be performed by faculty guitarists Rick Peckham and Tony
Gaboury.
October 17- Not As Bad As It Sounds — Original contemporary jazz
compositions and arrangements by faculty guitarist Jim Kelly Associate
Vice-President, International Programs Saxophonist Larry Monroe will be
performed by an all faculty septet including Phil Wilson, trombone, Greg
Badolato, tenor saxophone Scott deOgburn, trumpet; Winston Maccow,
bass; and Kenwood Dennard, drums.
October 18- The Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble-Faculty members Robin
Ginenthal, Louis Stewart, Harry Chalmiers and alum Kenji Kikuchi per-
form twentieth-century works for voice, flute, guitar and piano including
Copland’s Duo for Flute and Piano, Ravel’s Histoire Naturalle. Also works
by Diamond, Ibert, Hue, Britten and Delage.
October 19- The Sandra Aran Jazz Quartet — Vocalist Sandra Aran pre-
sents a quartet performing original arrangmeents, contemporary tran-
scriptions and the mingling of the members’ different backgrounds.
Pianist Alberto Janz, bassist Emmanuel Vaughan Lee and drummer
- Michael Prowaznik join Sandra in a collective effort to create improvised
music through tradition, spirit and daring.
October 26- Sky-A Concert of 20* Century Music — Pianist Yuka Hamano
presents SKY, a contemporary classical music ensemble performing both
standard repertoire and original compositions for piano, Shandy Phillips’
violin and Kenji Kikuchi’s clarinet/flute.
October 30- Jazz Vocal Series- Voice department faculty member Maggi
Scott presents a select group of singers to perform jazz standards
accompanied by a trio.
