Berklee Performance Center Concerts

April 1 — West African Drum & Dance
Ensembles - Africa is struggling to rediscover
herself as modern technology forcefully
advances around the world. Berklee's West
African Drum and Dance Ensemble under the
direction of Joe Galeota will present
"Rebirth" a concert of traditional and popu-
lar African music.

April 2 - Zildjian Night: A Tribute to Elvin
Jones- A tribute to the late jazz icon Elvin
Jones with John Ramsay, Kenwood Dennard,
and Billy Hart and the Berklee Rainbow Band
under the direction of Phil Wilson.

April 4- Songwriter's Night- The Songwriting
Department presents its annual "Songwriters'
Night" showcase featuring the best student
songwriters and performers that Berklee has
to offer.

April 6- Writing Division Awards- The
Professional Writing Division presents it annu-
al Awards Concert featuring award-winning
writers from the division.

April 8- Yellowjackets Songbook - The
Yellowjackets Songbook

Russell Ferrante and Marcus Baylor of the
Yellowjackets will lead a group of students in
performance of the Yellowjackets vocal song-
book.

April 10 - The Great American Songbook:
The Music of Cole Porter - The songs of Cole
Porter are performed by Berklee faculty in
the lush, swinging style of pop's golden age.
Featured vocalists will be faculty members
Donna McElroy and Maggie Scott, and stu-
dent Jeremy Ragsdale. Arrangements by fac-
ulty members Richard Evans, Ken Zambello,
Joe Smith, Jay Kennedy, and Jeff Friedman.
Featured instrumentalists include Larry
Monroe, Ken Cervenka, Jackie Beard, Greg
Badolato and a host of other Berklee faculty
administrators and students.

April 11- A Berklee Jazz Festival - This con-
cert will showcase many of the College’s top
talents-instrumentalists as well as
composer/arrangers--as the Rainbow Band
performs jazz for large ensemble with special
guest vocalist Jeremy Ragsdale under the
direction of faculty trombonist, composer,
arranger Phil Wilson.

April 12 — Guitar Student Showcase Concert-
Jazz & Blues - Under the direction of faculty
members Garrison Fewell and Curt Shumate,
student led groups perform in jazz and blues
styles. This years concert will include groups
led by Federico Casagrande, Allen Hulsey,
Marco Buenaventura, Eric French, David
Jimenz and Hokei Kamuro.

April 13-Thaddeus Hogarth

April 14 - Guitar Student Showcase Concert-
Rock & Pop - Under the direction of faculty
members Jon Finn and Lauren Passarelli, stu-
dent led groups perform in rock and pop
styles.

April 15- Rick Peckham Group- Assistant
Chair of the Guitar Department Rick
Peckham leads a group with Bruno Raberg,
bass and Nick Falk, drums, performing his
original compositions, including selections
from his critically acclaimed release Left End.

April 21- Singers Showcase- Berklee's pre-
miere vocal event offers a variety of styles
and musical settings for some of the college’s
exceptional singers. The Spring 2005 Singer's
Showcase will feature the talents of lead
vocalists Kamaria Oulsley, Jeremy Ragsdale,
Tiwa Savage, Dawn Royston, Major"
Choirboy" Johnson, Ryan Pinkston, Jessica
Wolfe, Natalie Fernandez, and Nadine Ford.
They will be performing the music of
Destiny's Child, Joni Mitchell, The Jackson
Five, Sarah Brightman, Anikta Baker, Shakira,
and many others.
