David Friend Recital Hall Concerts

February 15- The Music and Life of Bob
Marley with Roger Steffens - The Music and
Life of Bob Marley class at Berklee College of
Music will be hosting the world renowned
reggae and Marley historian Roger Steffens
in a 2-hour multi-media event celebrating
Black History Month and Marley’s 60th birth-
day! The event will begin with Steffens illu-
minating many interesting facts, stories and
personal recollections of Marley’s life
enhanced by the presentation of rare audio
and video clips from Steffens’ famous
"Reggae Archives”. The event will conclude
with a rollicking performance of Marley’s
music by the members of the Music and Life
of Bob Marley performance studies class,
directed by Matt Jenson.

February 16- Storytellers 2005- Voice depart-
ment faculty Didi Stewart presents her stu-
dents performing pop/rock songs by contem-
porary singer-songwriters. Storytellers per-
formers reveal the stories behind the song
making for a personal, intimate concert
experience. Featured songs include material
by the Dixie chicks, Aaron Walker, Sinead
O'Connor, guns and Roses and Sting.

February 22- Black Bahia-Marcos Santos and
The Brazilian/African Connection -
Percussionist Marcos Santos will highlight the
African and Native Brazilian roots of this
music. Songs by Luiz Gonzaga, Gilberto Gil,
Lenine, Caetano Veloso and Carlinhos Brown
will be performed.

February 24 - [4:00 p.m.] Ron Mahdi Presents
A Tribute to James Williams

Faculty member bassist Ron Mahdi presents a
tribute to the late pianist and composer
James Williams featuring faculty pianist
Consuelo Candelaria, Woodwind Chair Bill
Pierce and Ensemble Chair Ron Savage,
drums.

and composition department faculty member
Andrew List present student compositions for
solo piano. Students submitted compositions
to be performed by piano students and the
pianists chose the compositions and collabo-
rated with the composers to prepare for this
special piano week event. Compositions in a
wide range of styles by Roberto Toscano, Dan
Bergland, Francesco Artusato, Roman
Kovalik, Apakk Hui, Muarizio Yazig and
Tommy Pedrini.

February 28 - Platinum Plus - Faculty pianist
Joanne Brackeen performs original jazz with
her group including Donald Lee, Nir Naaman,
David Clark and Yoron Israel as part of Piano
week activities.

March 1 - Suzanna Sifter Quartet - Faculty
pianist Suzanna Sifter performs original jazz
with her group as part of Piano week activi-
ties.

March 2 - One Hour of Dub - Faculty pianist
Matt Jenson performs an hour of dubbified
tunes in the reggae and neo-soul styles
stitched together with effects, dropouts,
vibrations, attitude and a lap top computer
as part of Piano week activities.

March 3 - 4:00 pm Kiyo Nakazaki- Zambelli
Scholarship Concert Classical compositions
for solo piano by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin,
Bartok and Ravel will be performed by the
Emannuel Zambelli Scholarship winner, Kiyo
Nakazaki.

March 7 - Don't Try This At Home - The
Berklee Country Music Ensemble- The
Berklee Country Music Ensemble under the
direction of faculty guitarist Mike Ihde, per-
forms top country hits as well as instrumen-
tals in classic country, western swing, and
rockabilly styles. An exciting and entertain-
ing evening of Hot Country and Blazing
Instrumentals performed by Berklee's best
Pickers and Singers.
