SPRING 1988

Double Concert—STRING SAMPLER/REPROGRAMMING
THE STAGNANT LICK MACHINE—The first half of this concert
will showcase a variety of musical styles, from bluegrass to classi-
cal and jazz, featuring acoustic string instruments under the direc-
tion of guitarist/banjoist Yoshihiro Arita with special guest String
Department Chairman Matt Glaser. In the second half trombonist
Terje Nygaard presents original compositions of modern acoustic
jazz for quartet.

Double Concert—THE BUZZARDS/MY SONGS—Faculty
saxophonist Darcy Hepner opens this concert leading a large student
ensemble in a cross section of rhythm and blues styles. In the second
half faculty guitarist Chan Johnson presents an eight-piece student
band performing original rhythm and blues compositions and fea-
turing vocalist Teresa Rodrigues.

MUSIC SYNTHESIS FACULTY CONCERT —The faculty of
Berklee’s Music Synthesis Department presents a contemporary
variety show highlighting faculty members as composers, arrangers
and performers presenting a variety of material in solo and ensem-
ble formats coordinated by associate professor Michael Brigida.

Double Concert—WHAM! BAM! THANK YOU MA'AM/

TIME OUT—Student drummer Nels Dielman presents his
seven-piece ensemble performing electric dance funk music with
special guests Warren Hill, alto sax, Kevin Barry, guitar, and vocalist
Laurie Hanrahan. In the second half vocalist Stacey Stanley teams
with musical director Scott Sheriff in a program of rhythm and
blues, pop and jazz styles for a large ensemble.

Double Concert—THE BENJAMIN RODEFER GROUP/

LE VOYANT—Senior guitarist Benjamin Rodefer opens this two-
for-one concert with a program of jazz originals and standards for
quintet with special guest saxophonist Donny McCaslin. In the sec-
ond half vibist Yoshihiko Katori presents his contemporary jazz big
band performing his arrangements of originals and jazz standards.

AN EVENING WITH THE BERKLEE RANBOW BAND —
Faculty trombonist Phil Wilson directs one of Berklee’s finest
ensembles performing jazz-fusion styles and featuring specially
prepared compositions by saxophonist Donny McCaslin and
vibist Jean Baptiste Bocle.
