BERKLEE PERFORMANCE CENTER CONCERTS
Fall 1981



October26 Duo — Bassist Keiichi Ishibashi and pianist Makoto Ozone team-up to present
a concert of modern jazz, bebop and swing. Guest artists will be featured in
the second half.

October27 Los Nacimientos — A concert of new chamber music; featuring works for
voice, by members of the Composition Department.

October28 An Evening of Comic Opera at the Berklee Performance Center — Two *
one-act operas: Mozart's “Impressario” and Menotti's “The Telephone”
directed by student Thomas Kelly.

October29 Trick or Treat — Faculty pianist Steve Bauer leads his 12-piece band in a
Halloween Concert of original compositions and new arrangements of jazz
standards.

November 2 Full Trunk — Directed by Andy Jaffe. This concert will feature faculty member E
Jaffe's compositions; for solo piano, chamber music small and big band jazz.

November 3 There Is Time/The Jarmo Savolainen Group — A divided concert opening with
guitarist Jenne Rick’s jazz/funk/folk/rock big band and closing with the contem-
porary, straight-ahead jazz compositions of pianist Savolainen in a sextet
sefting. :
November4 Joe Cohniles Arbuckie/Steve Johns/Ed Felson — An evening of jazz stand-
ards, bebop and blues is presented by faculty memioer Les Arbuckle and his L
quartet.

November 5 Y Sigue La Saisa, with Orchestra Tropica — Directed by Edgard Nevarez &
Tommy Villariny — A concert of “Salsa”; contemporary Afro-Antillian music.
The program will showcase Guaguanco, Charanga, Meren and Bomba
rhythms as well as some Latin fusion and Latin compositions.

November9 The Harry Miller Band/Solar Wind — A divided program. The Harry Miller Band, ®
an electric, acoustic quintet, playing composed and improvised jazz-related
music will perform in the first half and Jeanne Stap and Mark Nooney will follow
with their jazz/rock/funk/fusion band in the second half.

November 10 An Evening with Lenora Helm — ‘/ocalist Lenora Helm invites everyone to enjoy
an evening of contemporary rausic with an emphasis on jazz and funk.
Faculty member Orville Wright will be featured guest soloist.

November 12 Music for Cane, Skin, Tubes & Transistors — Directed by Randy Felfs. The title
ranslate into music for reeds, percussion, brass and electironics respectively.
Faculty member Felis presents his music to you in a variety of seftings and styles
ranging from experimental electronic to contemporary pop.

November 16 Mariano Morales in Concert — Mariano Morales' big band and orchestra
present an evening of Latin music dedicated fo Bonifacia Solis Lazu.

November 17 Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra — Directed by Herbb Pomeroy. Berkiee's oldest 2
and most prestigious big band jazz ensemblie returns for their annual fall
concert.

November 18 Stairway to the Stars — Vocalist Sheila “Harmony"' Ford dedicates the first half

of her show to Ella Fitzgerald. Musical styles wiil range from jazz to gospel to
funk in quartet, big band and Gospel ensemble settings.
