Berklee Perjormance Center Concerts



THE YUKI ARIMASA TRIO/WHAT I CAN DO ALONE—Piano
Department faculty member Yuki Arimasa leads his trio, with faculty
drummer Dave Weigert, in a performance of original compositions
and selections by Duke Ellington. In the second half, faculty member
Makoto Takenaka will perform solo interpretations of jazz standards
and new age selections.

A TRIBUTE TO BOB MARLEY—As part of Berklee’s Black Music
Celebration the music of reggae superstar Bob Marley will be featured
in a concert of student performers under the direction of Chelsa
Bailey with Ensemble Department Chair Orville Wright as faculty
advisor.

CORRECTIONS/JACK STROPS—In “Corrections,” student drummer
Kenwood Anderson presents acoustic and electric jazz for a small
ensemble. Then “Jack Strops,” directed by student drummer Abe
Laboriel, offers alternative rock for a five-piece ensemble.

BLACK DIVAS—Faculty member Richard Evans and student vocalist
Robin Spears present an evening featuring the music of Bessie Smith,
Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight,
Patti Labelle, Phyllis Hyman, Chaka Khan, and Natalie Cole performed
by student vocalists in an variety of instrumental settings. Part of
Berklee’s Black Music Celebration, this program will feature original
arrangements by faculty members Richard Evans, Tommy Kamp, Tom
Stein, and others.

ALVIN BATISTE—As part of Berklee’s Black Music Celebration
renowned instrumentalist/composer/educator Alvin Batiste will
perform original compositions and arrangements with a specially
selected student ensemble.
