Fall 1980
September 3 Locketts Rockets Presents “The Outsiders”, bassist Tom Lockett retrns with his
outstanding jazz fusion group.
September 9 “Skyward”, The Billy Norine Group, a program of contemporary music for smail
jazz ensemble that features the playing and writing of drummer Billy Norine.
September 10 Booga-Booga Strikes Again, one of the more popular groups around. Booga-Booga
presents a program of contemporary music that reflects influences from Armstrong to
September |5 Bill Brinkley & Tony Noterfonzo Present This Time Now With Vocalist
Ginny Fordham, guitarist Brinkley and drummer Noterfonzo collaborate in a program
of small group jazz. '
September |6 Hypertension (Phrase ), one of the area’s best funk bands in a rare Performance
Center concert.
September 22 Urge, bassist Tim Archibald leads his fast rising small group through a program that blends
jazz, funk, etc.
September 23 The Mike Scott Concert, Mike Scott leads his ten man band in a performance of
mostly original music reflecting a variety of jazz styles.
September 24 The Rich Applin Concert, in his first Performance Center effort, faculty guitarist
Applin presents his jazz octet in a program of original music.
September 25 Fly By Night, mixing many styles of today's music, Fly By Night never fails to present
one of the season’s outstanding concerts.
September 30 The Fringitization of Ap-Gu-Ga, one of Boston's most enduring and endearing jazz
groups presents its annual Fall concert.
October | Moksha, trumpeter Wayne Naus leads his innovative group Moksha through a program
of original music.
October 2 Ed Tomassi Quartet, faculty member Ed Tomassi, joined by fellow saxist, Norm
David, presents an evening of ‘‘post bebop’ music.
October 7 The Hearing, guitarist Jackson Schultz leads his all faculty quintet through a program of
mainstream jazz.
October 9 Come Together, facuity member John Stevens returns to the BPC to present his own
unique brand of contemporary music.
October 14 Choice Blend, composer/pianist Ferrara brings his all faculty big band back for more
original music.
