David Friend Recital Hall Concerts
December 3 — 4:00 p.m. — The Music of
James Brown Ensemble - Under the direction
of faculty member Kenwood Dennard, this
ensemble features the groundbreaking and
epoch-making music of James Brown. This
concert will include student-generated
arrangements and improvisations on several
of Mr. Brown's most influential compositions.
December 3 - 7:30 p.m. - Music of Bob
Marley - Faculty pianist Matt Jenson presents
this student ensemble performing the music
of the Jamaican musical icon Bob Marley.
December 6 — 1:00 p.m. — Small Band
Advanced Jazz Concepts Ensemble—
Ensemble department faculty member saxo-
phonist Joe Lovano presents this ensemble in
performance.
December 6 — 2:30 p.m. - Small Band
Advanced Jazz Concepts Ensemble—
Ensemble department faculty member saxo-
phonist Joe Lovano presents this ensemble in

a student ensemble performing original Latin
jazz.
December 7 - 1:00 p.m. — Idioddities —
Faculty pianist JoAnne Brackeen presents her
advanced jazz ensemble performing originals
and compositions by Clifford Brown and
Branford Marsalis.
December 7 — 2:30 p.m. -Bluegrass
Ensemble — David Hollender directs various
Bluegrass ensembles in traditional and con-
temporary styles.
