Berklee Performance Center Concerts

January 22 — Daryl Lowery and Instant!Groove - The Hammond B3 is at the
core of the funky soul-jazz grooves that provide a vehicle for improvisations led
by faculty saxophonist Daryl Lowery. The highly original sound of Instant!Groove,
with Bob Moses (drums), and faculty members Rick Peckham (guitar), Ron
Mahdi(acoustic bass), and Dennis Montgomery Ill (B3), is reminiscent of the
organ-based groups of John Scofield and draws much of its repertoire from the
likes of “Big” John Patton, Ruben Wilson, Don Patterson and Leon Spencer.

January 29 — Great American Songbook: the Music of Irving Berlin - Featur-
ing the music of Irving Berlin performed by the 40 piece Berklee College of Music
“Great American Songbook” Orchestra and big band plus harp, and string
section. Featured guests are faculty vocalists Robin McElhatten, and Donna
McElroy, plus faculty members alto saxophonist Walter Beasley; trumpeter Jeff
Stout; along with student vocalists Erika Gustafson, Nick Sotack, Jeremy
Ragsdale, and Christy Bluhm. Other performers include Associate Vice President
for International programs Larry Monroe, Assistant Vice President for Interna-
tional programs Greg Badolato, Assistant Bass Chair John Repucci, faculty
members Tony Germain, Joe Smith, Russ Hoffman, Ken Cervenka, Scott
DeOgburn, John Pierce, Bob Pilkington, Felice Pomeranz, Assistant Chair
Harmony dept. Mia Olson and Performance Division Dean Matt Marvuglio.
Arrangements by Richard Evans, Larry Monroe, Ken Zambello, and Joe Smith.

February 2 — Groove Junkies — Faculty guitarist James Peterson presents his
five piece band performing original funk and music by James Brown and others.

February 4 — Heavy Rotation Records Fourth Annual Epic Event - Under the
direction of faculty member Jeffrey Dorenfeld, Heavy Rotation Records presents
bands from their new release “Dorm Room Sessions Vol. 2" performing in styles
from rock to hip hop to pop.

February 5 — Still on the Journey - Voice department faculty member Lawrence
Watson will feature several Berklee students, alumni and faculty as he sings
classic gospel favorites, jazz standards, soul, original compositions and blues
music that spans his 20-year musical career and honors the victories of the Civil
Rights Movement in the United States. Watson sings the music of Luther
Vandross, James Cleveland, Douglass Miller, Sarah Vaughn, Sammy Davis Jr,
Peabo Bryson, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Nancy Wilson, Johnny Mathis,
Stevie Wonder, and Pavarotti.

February 8 — Gospel Jubilee featuring Tia-Marie Talbert and Overjoyed -
Dennis Montgomery, lll presents Tia-Marie Talbert and Overjoyed in an evening
of Original, Traditional, and Contemporary gospel music. The second half of the
program will feature various faculty from the Voice Department with Overjoyed as
backgrounds.
