Berklee Performance Center Concerts
FALL 1986
BERKLEE CONCERT WIND ENSEMBLE — Faculty tubist/composer
Gregory Fritze directs this ensemble through a program of
contemporary music for wind ensemble including works by Ives,
Shostakovich and faculty composer Thomas McGah. Special guest
Vera Meyer will perform on glass harmonica.
THE BERKLEE CONCERT JAZZ BAND — Famed faculty
composer/ arranger/trums)eter Herb Pomeroy directs the college’s
most prestigious ensemble through a program of big band jazz.
BERKLEE SINGERS’ SHOWCASE — Some of Berklee’s finest vocalists
will be featured in this musically varied concert of arrangements
written especially for this event under the direction of Performance
Studies Department Chairman Rob Rose and Ensemble Department
Chairman Orville Wright.
Double Concert — TURNING POINT OF PEACE/JULIE GIBBONS
IN CONCERT — Composer/arranger/guitarist David Miller opens
this double concert with a program of original modern jazz in a
variety of instrumental settings. Vocalist/guitarist/composer Julie
Gibbons then takes the stage to perform contemporary folk, jazz and
funk styles with her large ensemble featuring faculty saxophonist Bob
Zung.
WHY NOT — An evening of pop, rhythm and blues and jazz styles is
presented by vocalist Lauren Kinhan and musical director
Etienne Stadwijk, featuring originals by student composers/arrangers
Ken Gold and Evie Nelson performed by a large ensemble.
JAZZ VOCAL SUMMIT — Faculty vocalist Bob Stoloff presents this
four-voice a capella group in a concert of jazz and free jazz by
composers including Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and
original works by Stoloff.
COME BY HERE — The Berklee Reverence Gospel Ensemble,
directed by Dennis Montgomery 111, with faculty advisor Ensemble
Department Chairman Orville Wright, presents its semesterly concert
of traditional and contemporary gospe{)featuring compositions of
Andre Crouch, Richard Smallwood and others.
AN EVENING WITH THE BERKLEE RAINBOW BAND — Faculty
trombonist/composer Phil Wilson directs an all-star student septet
in an evening of original jazz fusion by band members
Jean Baptist Bocle, Donny McCaslin, Danilo Perez and Phil Wilson.
