Summer 1982
Touch With Merv DePeyer—Student pianist Merv DePeyer leads his
sextet in a program of original compositions blending jazz, classical,
latin and African influences.
Intuition—Saxophonist Ben Schachter and pianist Mike Kanon
present an evening of jazz duets featuring the music of Cole Porter,
Duke Ellington and Charles Mingus.
Giant Steps—A concert of bebop by Dizzy Gillespie and John Coltrane
is presented by student percussionist David Wood in quartet and
quintet settings. “
The Trios—Student pianist Klaus Wagenleiter leads two separate trios
in a program of original and contemporary latin/jazz works.
Ron Raymond Ensemble—A high-enérgy program of contemporary
jazz and rock is performed by student bassist Ron Raymond and his
ensemble.
Third Dog Quintet/Dueling Baris—How Low Can You Go?—
Faculty saxophonist Dan Harrington directs the “Third Dog Quintet” in
a concert of mainstream jazz, spotlighting Harrington and guest artist
Joe Calo dueling on baritone saxophones.
Off Swing—Student Eric T. Fleisher on guitar and guitar synthesizer
leads his group, with guest artists, in a concert of original jazz/rock
compositions. &
Asante Sana—A diverse program of contemporary jazz and tradi-
tional Afro-American music is presented by student trombonist
Tyrone Jefferson and his band, featuring faculty saxophonist Herman
Johnson.
To Momcat Love Pooh—Student vocalist Liz Richardson directs an
ensemble of singers, instrumentalists and dancers in an evening of
Broadway show tunes.
“] Never Knew He Could Sing Like Thatl”—Singer-songwriter
Douglas Cooper Getschal of the faculty teams up with outstanding
student pianist Makoto Ozone for a program of original rock and jazz
selections, with guest faculty guitarist Mike Ihde.
The Rodney Smith Concert—Student percussionist Rodney Smith
leads his ensemble in a program of original jazz works and new
arrangements of popular standards.
Together—A program of guitar duets performed by student Masahiro
Ojiri and faculty member Larry Baione will be featured in this concert of
original and standard jazz compositions.
