Berklee Pevformance Center Concerts
SPRING 1987
BIG BAND EXPRESS — Faculty trumpeter/arranger Wayne Naus
directs an all-star big band of Kenton, Herman, Rich and Ferguson
alumni now on the Berklee faculty featuring arrangements by faculty
members Dick Lowell, Bob Pilkington and Greg Hopkins.
Double Concert — FLYING ELEPHANT LANDS! / BRUNO DESTREZ
“NEW QUARTET” — Composer/artanger ‘Tony Makarome opens this
two part concert with an eighteen picce orchestra performing original
contemporary music including his arrangements ol picces by Mozan,
Ravel and Stravinsky, chamber music and a choral work by
Paulo Malaguti featuring the CopaCorale. In the second hall bassist
Bruno Destrez presents his quartet playing maodern jazz with special
guest guitarist Mick GoudriclL and faculty members Christian Jacob,
piano, and lan Froman, drums.
ALLAN CHASE TRIO AND QUARTET --- Original compositions of
jazz. blended with ethnic music, contemporary composition and funk
in trio and quartet settings is presented by faculty siaxophonist
Allan Chase with faculty members Jon Damian, guitar, and
Bruno Raberg, bass.
Double Concert — AGENT / PLAY I'T' AGAIN, SAMSON -
Guitarists/vocalists Jim Circosta and Steve Hoevertsz open this concert
with original pop/rock music played by the sextet Agent. The second
half features bassist Brian Hamm leading a quintet playing funk and
jazz. compositions by Chick Corea, Steps Ahead, Tom Scott and Hamm,
Double Concert — SHIGEYOLOGY / BLACK & BLUES — Guitarist
Shigeyoshi Kawage presents contemporary fusion in a quartet sewing
to open the evening's music. In the second half trombonist
Roger Cagnon leads a quintet performing original mainstream and
progressive jazz.
THE WOODS ARE SMOKING — Woodwind Department Chairman,
alto saxophonist Jimmy Mosher presents contemporary jazz per-
formed by both his quintet and the Joe Viola Saxophone Quartet.
Featured composers/arrangers will be faculty members
Bob Freedman and Greg Hopkins with guest performers faculty flutist
Matt Marvuglio and guitarist Mick Goodrick.
Double Concert — SPONTANEOUS RESOLUTION / I'T"S ABOUT
TIME — Trombonist Terje Nygaard presents original progressive jazz
played by his quintet. In the second half, jazz standards will be
presented by trombonist Tom Whaley and his sextet featuring faculty
pianist Christian Jacob, saxophonist Donny McCaslin and vocalist
Lauren Kinhan.
