Fall 1980
October | Moksha, trumpeter Wayne Naus Ieads his innovative group Moksha through a program
of original music.
October 2 Ed Tomassi Quartet, faculty member Ed Tomassi, joined by fellow saxist, Norm
David, presents an evening of ‘‘post bebop’’ music. ;
October 9 Come Together, faculty member John Stevens returns to the BPC to present his own
unique brand of contemporary music.
October |5 Waiting For To Go, faculty pianist John Armstrong in a program of solo and small
group contemporary jazz.
October 16 Music From Films — Part 5, faculty member Jim Burt has adapted a variety of film
music for his small jazz group. Featured are other members of the Berklee faculty as well
as pianist Burt.
October 20 Mike Metheny Quartet, flugelhornist Mike Metheny presents a program of jazz music
that also features faculty keyboardist Dick Odgren.
October 21 Changing Gears — The Dan Arsenault Quartet/Tycoon Jazz Orchestra, a ‘‘two-
for-one'* concert featuring the Dan Arsenault Quartet in the first half and the Tycoon
Jazz Orchestra, directed by Kiyoshi Miyaura in the second half.
October 22 Dual Function, the many styles of contemporary American music are reflected in this
concert by faculty saxophonist Peter Gordon.
October 23 Norman David — Solo and Eleventet, faculty saxophonist David returns with a
program that features his || piece band. An evening of original music influenced by
Mingus, Rivers, Braxton, etc.
October 27 The Donald Harrison Quartet/Light From The North, Donald Harrison and
Robert Ricketts, two of the area’s outstanding young saxophonists divide this program.
Both players lead their respective groups in an evening of contemporary jazz.
October 28 At Night With Not Too Much Light, brothers Frank and Leo Quintero direct a
program of jazz/rock music for their ten piece group.
October 30 Berklee Film Festival — Reel 4, Film Scoring Chairman, Don Wilkins coordinates his
annual presentation of original films that feature scores by Berklee composers.
November 3 David Rosenthal/Jarczyk & Sjoerdinga Quartet, multikeyboardist David Rosenthal
and his quartet open this divided concert of contemporary jazz. The second half features
the Jan Jarczyk Quartet, a jazz group that showcases the playing and compositional
talents of trombonist/pianist Jan Jarczyk.
November 4 Nick Scarmack Quartet/Thornebird, a divided concert featuring the Nick
Scarmack Quartet in the first half and Thornebird, a new |2-piece jazz/rock group
directed by Edwina Thorne in the second half.
November 5 You Need A Title, Spanish pianist/composer Tomas San Miguel in a program of
contemporary music that mixes the elements of jazz and traditional Spanish music.
November 6 Decahedron + I, In Concert, one of the outstanding jazz groups in the area, Ken
Pullig's Decahedron, presents its annual Fall concert.
November A Funny Thing Happened On The Way to The Forum, an all Berklee production
12& 13 of Stephen Sondheim’s comedy classic produced by faculty member Tom Martin. This
popular show will be presented on two nights.
