Berklee Performance Center Concerts
March 28 Berklee Composers in the 1990s—Composition Department
Chair Jack Jarrett presents the latest original music from faculty members in his
department in a variety of styles including modern art song, string quartet, duo,
sonata, jazz-based piano variations, Off-Broadway theater excerpts, and concerto
with improvised solo part. Faculty composers Marti Epstein, Thomas Allen LeVines,
Richard Applin, Gregory Fritze, Jack Jarrett, John Bavicchi, and Louis Stewart will be
represented.
March 29 An Evening with the Berklee Rainbow Band with Strings—
Faculty composer/arranger/trombonist Phil Wilson presents the Berklee Rainbow
Band playing original jazz and fusion compositions with the special addition of a
string section.
March 30 The Commercial Arranging Department Spring Concert -
Original compositions and arrangements by faculty members in the Commercial
Arranging Department will be performed by a 40 piece orchestra and choir under
the direction of Richard Evans and Donny Nolan.
March 31 Songwriters’ Night X—Under the direction of Songwriting
Department faculty member Bob Weingart, this concert will feature the winners of
the Songwriting Department’s annual college-wide songwriting contest. The songs
are in a variety of contemporary styles, ranging from folk to pop to rock.
April 4 Rock Arranging Live - The best student arrangements of original
and cover songs in the pop/rock idiom drawn from the Rock Arranging courses will
be performed by specially selected student performers under the direction of faculty
member Mirek Kocandrle.

April 6 The Back Bay Brass Jazz Orchestra/Chord Scale Madness - Jazz
Composition department faculty member Jackson Schultz showcases some of the
strongest arrangements written by students while taking the course, “Voicings
Derived from Chord Scales.” In various styles, all with a common jazz influence, the
music will be performed by an 11-piece ensemble. In the second half, faculty
trombonist/composer/arranger Ben Elkins presents the 19-piece Back Bay Brass Jazz
orchestra performing Swing, Latin and fusion compositions and arrangements by
Thad Jones and others.
