Berklee Performance Center Concerts
Spring 1981

March 24 Bent Notes — Composer/saxophonist Gary Boigon presents a program of
contemporary jazz featuring Tim Landers on bass and Gary Chaffee on
drums.

March 26 Bertha’s Dubloons — Directed by Kim Cissel. An evening of contemporary
music for various ensemble configurations utilizing the inspiration of
Fyodor Dostoevsky, Tom Robbins, and Howard Roark.

March 30 Who? Where? When? — Vocalist Lisa Rostky presents a program that mixes
jazz, pop and traditional styles of music.

March 31 Collective Spirit — Kathy Shoemaker brings her small fusion group to the
BPC in a program of original music written by herself and Leo Quintero.

April2 Salsa at the Performance Center — Directed by Edgard Nevarez and
Tommy Villariny, Orchestra Tropica returns for its annual spring concert.

April6 The Dave Lindsey Concert — Faculty trombonist Dave Lindsey opens
Sackbut Week with a program of modern jazz.

April7 An Evening With The Dues Band — Directed by Phil Wilson. Berklee's best
known student big band offers their usual rousing program.

April9 Berklee Trombone Choirs in Concert — Faculty trombonists Tom Plsek,
Phil Wilson. and Isham Peugh combine efforts to present their respective
trombone choirs in a cross-sectional program of music.

April 13 The Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Student Ensemble — Facuity member Ed
_Tomassi leads the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis ensemble through a program of
S emen e CONPArIBOTAY big band jazz.

April 14 The Jeff Friedman Orchestra — An eleven-piece faculty jazz group featur-
ing the music of Monk, Ellington, Mingus and originals by the leader.

April 15 The Hal Albert/Steve Bowden Concert — A divided concert opening with
guitarist Hal Albert’s jazz quintet and closing with the large pop/funk/jazz
group directed by pianist Steve Bowden.

April 16 Moksha — Facuity composer/trumpeter Wayne Naus leads his small group
through a program of original music that combines improvisation and
composition.

April 20 Awareness I — Directed by Michael Lewis. In their first BPC concert Aware-
ness presents a program of funk and jazz-tinged R & B tunes composed and
arranged by members of the group. !

April 21 Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra — Directed by Herb Pomeroy. Berklee's
oldest and most prestigious big band jazz ensembie returns in their annual
concert.

April 22 Just For The Funk Of It — Faculty members Steve Olenick and Robert
Doezema present an evening of original funk music.

April 23 Histoire D’Une Vie — Composer Robert Gaudreau leads his large studio
orchestra in a program of original music.

April 27 Berklee Concert Band — Conducted by Peter Hazzard. In its annual spring
concert.

April 28 The Berklee Studio Orchestra — Directed by Wes Hensel. Utilizing the big
band format with additional reeds, percussion and strings. This new student
group presents its second BPC concert.
