David Friend Recital Hall Concerts

April 4 - Berklee Storytellers - A showcase for Berklee's pop and rock
performers in the spirit of VH1’s “Storytellers” show with each singer
revealing the story behind the song. Composers include Melissa
Etheridge, Tori Amos, Laura Nyro, Stevie Wonder and Madonna. Under the
direction of faculty vocalist Did Stewart with a band led by faculty pianist
Alizon Lissance featuring Reed Butler playing bass.

April 5 - West African Ensembles - Under the direction of Joe Galeota,
The Berklee West African Drum & Dance Ensemble will perform three
musics of the Ewe, Dagomba and Ga people. Adzogbo, considered one of
the most difficulty war dances of the Ewe, includes extravagant costumes
and drum poetry. Baamaya, a farmers social dance from northern Ghana
features side to side waist movement by dancers displaying a colorful
belt of cori shells. Finally, Kpanlogo, c courtship dance of the Ga swill
invite audience free style dancing creating a party like atmosphere.

April 6 - Nancy Zeltsman-Marimba Concert

April 10 - Jazz Vocal Series - Under the direction of faculty vocalist Maggi
Scott, student vocalists will perform jazz standards accompanied by a
faculty rhythm section including Scott on piano. Also featured will be “The
Boswell Sisters,” with Voice department Chair Jan Shapiro, faculty
vocalists Lisa Thorson and Adrianna Balic performing some of the
repertoire of the Boswell Sisters from the 1930’s and 40’s.

April 11 - Music for Marimba and Friends - Percussionist Vessela
Stoyanova presents an evening of both film scoring and marimba perfor-
mance. Featuring a 15 minute film by David Franklin entitled Godfoot .
Scored by Ms. Stoyanova the music will be performed live by multiple
percussion, cello and voice. Also featured will be a piece for solo ma-
rimba and pecussion ensemble performed by Percussion Unlimited. The
rest of the program will be original music and adaptations for marimba
with ethnic flavor (Bulgaria, India, Zimbabwe, Italy, France) and improvisa-
tional character.

April 12 - Songwriters’ Circle - The Songwriting Department’s annual
showcase of four of their most talented singer-songwriters. The evening
will feature solo and duo performances by Julie Meyers, Eunice Sim, Julie
Schreiber and Seth Trimble. :
