Over the past twenty years | have explored the use of specifically ordered
groups of notes called “rows" or “tone rows” to create harmonic and
melodic ideas. The instrumentation for these explorations has varied from
large ensembles to small chamber groups and electronic to acoustic/elec-
tronic hybrids. “Musings” is the newest of these compositions and is part
of a larger collection of pieces called “All Sides” that | hope to release
soon.

These two movements are part of a larger work that uses both composi-
tion and directed improvisation. The improvisation directs the players to
utilize given themes and/or rhythm. The work can be played by any num-
ber of players and any instrumentation.
