February 23 — Berklee COmposers in the 21%t Century - Composition Depart-
ment Faculty members present works with a variety of instrumentations under
the direction of Louis Stewart. Ken Ueno will present a work for voice, violin and
percussion. In addition works by Marti Epstein, Scott Fessler, Andrew List, Rick
~ Applin, Francine Trester, Beth Denisch and Thomas McGah will be performed.

February 24 — Bass Department Student Concert - Under the direction of

Assistant Chair John Repucci, five bass students— Justin Marcellus Brian Quinn
Matthew Fitz-Henry, Hogyu Hwang, Rodrigo Ponce will lead their bands in an
evening of original composmons ina varrety of styles rncludmg funk fusron hlp—
hop and jazz originals. :

: February 25 — Bruce Katz Organ Tno featurmg David “Fathead” Newman -
‘Faculty keyboardist Bruce Katz presents jazz and blues performed by organ,
guitar, drums and specral guest saxophomst David “Fathead Newman.

February 26, 4: 00 pm Tell It Like It T's Faculty vocahst Armsted Christian
presents a combination of jazz, Latin, R & B and spoken word originals and

~ music by Nina Simone and Curtis Mayfield for an eight meoe ensemble as part of
Berklee’ s Black Hlstory Month Music Celebratron :

February 26 — Breaking the Rules - - Breaking the Rules is a new v musical
theater revue customized for the talents of vocalist Shannon Muhs. With music
and lyrics by faculty composer Michael Wartofsky and David Reiffel, Breaking

the Rules is directed for stage by Kevin Mark Kline. The revue of songs followsa

woman on her journey as she discovers (then somehow ‘misplaces) true love;
takes out her frustration on pedestrians, travels to outer space, sells water in the
rain, and generally breaks all the rules. Soulful and funky one minute, classically
arty the next, this eclectic and dramatic revue features special guest vocalists
Alisa Miles and John Dias, as well as faculty member Jeri Sykes , woodwinds,

* David McGrory and Michael Wartofsky, piano, and faculty percussionist Rick
Kress.

March 1 -JoAnne Braokeén ’Qu‘arte‘t = Faculty pianist JoAnne Brackeen
performs original jazz with her quartet as part of Piano week activities.
