David Friend Recital Hall Concerts

February 26 — Breaking the Rules - Breaking the Rules is a new musical
theater revue customized for the talents of vocalist Shannon Muhs. With music
and lyrics by faculty composer Michael Wartofsky and David Reiffel, Breaking
the Rules is directed for stage by Kevin Mark Kline. The revue of songs follows a
woman on her journey as she discovers (then somehow misplaces) true love;
takes out her frustration on pedestrians, travels o outer space, sells water in the
rain, and generally breaks all the rules. Soulful and funky one minute, classically
arty the next, this eclectic and dramatic revue features special guest vocalists
Alisa Miles and John Dias, as well as facuity member Jeri Sykes , woodwinds,
David McGrory and Michael Wartofsky, piano, and faculty percussionist Rick
Kress.

March 1 — JoAnne Brackeen Quartet - Faculty pianist JoAnne Brackeen
performs original jazz with her quartet as part of Piano week activities.

March 2 , 2:00 p.m — New Piano Music — Piano Department Chair Stephany
Tiernan and Composition department faculty member Andrew List present piano
and composition students collaborating to perform new student works for piano.
Compositions by William Trevaskis, Beau Kenyon and David Utzinger will be
performed by Chieko Matsunami, Beau Kenyon, Mamasi Tomihisa and Saori
Furuya.

March 2 — Suzanne Davis - Facuity pianist Suzanne Davis performs jazz
originals with Garth Stevenson, bass and Ziv Ravitz, drums, as part of Piano
Week activities.

March 3 — Laszlo Gardony Trio - Facuity pianist Laszio Gardony performs
original jazz with his trio-faculty bassist John Lockwood and Assistant Chair of
Percussion Yoron Israel- as part of Piano week activities.

March 4, 4:00 p.m. The Emmanuel Zambeili Scholarship Concert, featuring
Jiyoung Na = This year’s winner, Jiyoung Na, performs classical piano music by
Bach, Beethoven, Schumann and Rachmaninoff.

March 4 — Bob Christopherson - Faculty pianist Bob Christopherson performs
as part of Piano Week activities.

March 8 — Winnie Dahlgren - Faculty vibist Winnie Dahlgren present Latin-jazz
originals for her quintet.
