Berklee Performance Center Concerts

April 18 — Jazz at the Center featuring The
Back Bay Brass & The Music of Ornette
Coleman Ensemble. — The Ensemble depart-
ment presents Big Band jazz under the direc-
tion of faculty trombonist, composer, arrang-
er Ben Elkins and music of Ornette Coleman
performed by a small group ensemble under
the direction of trombonist Jeff Galindo.

April 19 - Guitar Student Showcase Concert-
Jazz & Blues - Under the direction of faculty
members Garrison Fewell and Curt Shumate,
student groups led by Masahi Maeda, Dani
Rabin, Ryan Fardy, Fabian Daurat and llan
Bar-Lavi perform in jazz and blues styles.

April 20 - Guitar Student Showcase Concert-
Rock & Pop - Under the direction of faculty
members Jon Finn and Lauren Passarelli,
student groups led by guitarists Az Samad,
Drew Taubenfeld, Adam Ollendorff and
Charles Shaugnessy perform in rock and pop
styles.

April 27 - Singers Showcase- Berklee's pre-
miere vocal event offers a variety of styles
and musical settings for some of the college’s
exceptional singers. The Spring 2006 Singer’s
Showcase will feature lead vocalists Ryan
Christopher Pinkston, Evan Baughman, J.C.
Casely, Georgel Arevalo, Jennifer Bostic, Tyla
Vercollone, Meg O'Brien, and Ferris Algaisi,
as well as Berklee’s finest student players and
arrangers. The concert will feature the music
of Brian McKnight, Sarah Brightman, Billy
Joel, Marvin Gaye, Martina McBride, and
many others. This concert is produced by the
Yo Team.

May 1 - Seven Visions: The Berklee
Contemporary Wind Ensemble — The CWO
will present the World Premiere of student,
Herlen Galvez as well as the new music of
two faculty members, Alexandros Kalogeras
and Mimi Rabson. Moreover, we shall also
feature the winner of the college wide
Concerto Competition, Thomas Parisch,
oboe. In addition the CWO will present the
artistry of two faculty soloists, Apostolos
Paraskevas, guitar and Mimi Rabson, violin.

A major work of composer Igor Stravinsky A
Symphony of Wind Instruments (1920) will
be performed.

May 2 — Berklee Tower of Power Ensemble
- Soul and funk music of the famed Tower
of Power band performed by this 5 horn,

5 vocal and 5 rhythm ensemble under the
direction of faculty member Wayne Naus.

May 3 — Chord Scale Madness/Urban
Outreach Jazz Orchestra - Under the direc-
tion of Jazz Composition department fac-
ulty member Jackson Schultz, some of the
strongest student arrangements from the
“\oicings Derived from Chord Scales” course
will be performed by a ten-piece ensemble.
Then Ensemble department faculty member
Lin Biviano presents big band jazz in the
style of the Count Basie, Woody Herman,
Maynard Ferguson and Buddy Rich Bands.

May 5 - Yellowjackets & Overjoyed -
Yellowjackets Jimmy Haslip and Bob Mintzer
perform with Berklee’s contemporary gospel
group “Overjoyed”, directed by Dennis
Montgomery llI.

May 8 — Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra -
Faculty member Greg Hopkins directs this big
band in a program of contemporary jazz.

May 9 — Berklee Reverence Gospel Ensemble
- An evening of contemporary and tradi-
tional gospel music performed by Berklee’s
Reverence Gospel Ensemble directed by fac-
ulty member Dennis Montgomery llI.
