David Friend Recital Hall Concerts
December 2 - 3:00 p.m. - The Music of Jimi
Henrix Ensemble — Under the direction of
faculty member Kenwood Dennard, this
ensemble features the music of Jimi Hendrix,
one of the most important innovators of rock
music. The dynamic arrangements of these
classic rock compositions leave plenty of .
space for showcasing the individual self-
expression and creative talent of the stu-
dents.
December 2 - 4:30 p.m. - String Thing and
Sextet - Contemporary jazz ensemble per-
forms with strings under the direction of fac-
ulty member George Zonce.
December 2 - 7:30 p.m. — Concert Jazz
Orchestra - Contemporary music for Big Band
will be performed under the direction of fac-
ulty composer/arranger/trumpeter Greg
Hopkins.
December 3 - 1:00 p.m. — Aretha, Chaka,
Stevie, Marvin - Music of Aretha Franklin,
Chaka Cahn, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye
and others will be performed by a student
ensemble under the direction of faculty
member Skip Smith.
December 3 - 2:30 p.m. — Music of Pat
Metheny - Faculty member Winston Maccow
presents this ensemble performing the music
of famed guitarist Pat Metheny.
December 3 - 4:00 p.m. — The Music of
James Brown Ensemble - Under the direction
of faculty member Kenwood Dennard, this
ensemble features the groundbreaking and
epoch-making music of James Brown. This
concert will include student-generated
arrangements and improvisations on several
of Mr. Brown's most influential compositions.
December 3 - 7:30 p.m. — Music of Bob
Marley - Faculty pianist Matt Jenson presents
this student ensemble performing the music
of the Jamaican musical icon Bob Marley.

Branford Marsalis.

Ensemble — David Hollender directs various
Bluegrass ensembles in traditional and con-
temporary styles.

Yellowjackets - A quartet performs the
music of the famed jazz fusion band, The
Yellowjackets, under the direction of David
Weigert.

Songwriter Showcase 2004 - The
Songwriting Department proudly presents
the annual Performer/Songwriter Showcase
which will occur at the end of each Fall
semester. As usual it will feature a variety of
song styles including pop, folk, metal R & B
and rock.
