Berklee Performance Center Concerts
SPRING 1987
GENEOLOGY — The Berklee Jazz Choir, under the direction of faculty
vocalist/arranger Steve Prosser, pays tribute to Gene Puerling, noted singer
and arranger for the Hi-Lo’s and Sinfiers‘ Unlimited. The choir will perform a
diverse program of a capella music featuring Mr. Puerling’s arrangements and
special guest Bob StoJoff, faculty vocalist.
THE BERKLEE SINGERS’ SHOWCASE — Some of Berklee’s finest vocalists
join together for a varied program of music by Bacharach-David, Eagles,
Anita Baker, Heart and others with arrangements written especially for this
event under the direction of Ensemble Department Chairman Orville Wright
and Performance Studies Department Chairman Rob Rose.
PERCUSSION UNLIMITED — Contemporary percussion works by
Steve Reich, David MacBride and Gitta Steiner, the world premiere of a piece
by John Watrous and the Boston premiere of a Bill Molenhoff composition
are presented by Percussion Department Chairman Dean Anderson and the
Berklee Percussion Ensemble. Special guest performers include pianists
Randy Hodgkinson and Rachael Nicolazzo, violinist Nancy Cirillo, faculty
members Bruce Arnold, guitar, Ed Lucie, bass, and Ed Uribe, drums.
MY GOD IS NOT DEAD — The Berklee Reverence Gospel Ensemble,
directed by Dennis Montgomery with faculty advisor Orville Wright, perform
traditional and contemporary gospel styles including music by Andre Crouch
and Milton Bronson.
BACK BAY BRASS JAZZ ORCHESTRA — Faculty trombonist/arranger
Ben Elkins leads this ensemble through a program of original big band
compositions and arrangements.
VOCAL SUMMIT / THE COLLEGE SINGERS — The six-voice Vocal
Summit, under the direction of faculty vocalist Bob Stoloff, presents a varied
program of original and contemporary music including Latin, jazz and funk
styles and a special dramatic event in the form of a short skit. In the second
half, Voice Department Chairman Kenneth Greenhouse conducts the
twenty-four voice College Singers in a program of twentieth century choral
music, vocal jazz, pop tunes and original works featuring composers
Jean Berger, Richard Rodgers, Earl Dimaculangan and Gene Puerling. Special
guests include faculty members Herman Johnson, saxophone,
Russell Hoffman, piano, Bob Stoloff, drums, and staff member
Dan Greenspan, bass.
ROCK ARRANGING — LIVE! / STILL MORE CHORD SCALE MADNESS —
Faculty arrangers Lennie Peterson and Mirek Kocandrle present the best
student arrangements of the semester in diverse rock styles and instrumental
settings. In the second half, faculty arranger/guitarist Jackson Schultz directs
a student ensemble performing projects in varied jazz styles from his
Chord Scale Voicings course.
