Berklee Performance Center Concerts



March 15 Write of Spring—The Jazz Composition Department’s annual
spring concert will present an array of new compositions for instrumentations
ranging from quintet to full big band. Featured writers include Jazz Composi-
tion Department faculty members Scott Free, Jeff Friedman, Dick Lowell, Bill
Scism, and Jackson Schultz as well as outstanding student writers Masaka
Hamamura and Lester Menezes.

March 16 An Evening with Robert Stanton/Norman Zocher Trio—A
program of acoustic and electric guitar music in country, blues, jazz, and
classical styles will be presented by Performance Studies Department faculty
member Robert Stanton. Many original compositions will be featured and
special guests include String Department Chair Matt Glaser and bassist Roger
Kimball. In the second half, Guitar Department faculty member Norman
Zocher presents original guitar oriented jazz compositions performed by his
trio.

March 17 The Music of the Yellowjackets/The Berklee Buddy Rich
Ensemble—Ensemble Department faculty member David Weigert presents
the jazz fusion music of the Yellowjackets performed by a four-piece
ensemble. In the second half, faculty trumpeter Wayne Naus leads Berklee’s
Buddy Rich Ensemble in a program of big band jazz in the style of the late
bandleader.

March 28 Berklee Composers in the 1990’s - Composition Department
Chair Jack Jarrett presents the latest original music from faculty members in
his department in a varitety of styles including modern art song, string
quartet, duo, sonata, jazz-based piano variations, off broadway theater
excerpts and concerto with improvised solo part. Faculty composers Marti
Epstein, Thomas Allen LeVines, Richard Applin, Gregory Fritze, Jack Jarrett,
John Bavicchi and Louis Stewart will be represented.

March 29 An Evening with the Berklee Rainbow Band With Strings -
Faculty composer/arranger/trombonist Phil Wilson presents the Berklee
Rainbow Band playing original jazz and fusion compositions with a special
addition of a string section.

March 31 Songwriters’ Night X - Under the direction of Songwriting
department faculty member Bob Weingart, this concert will feature the
winners of the Songwriting Deartment’s annual college-wide songwriting
contest. The songs are in a variety of contemporary styles, ranging from folk
to pop to rock.
