David Friend Recital Hall Concerts
October 19- The Sandra Aran Jazz Quartet — Vocalist Sandra Aran pre-
sents a quartet performing original arrangmeents, contemporary tran-
scriptions and the mingling of the members’ different backgrounds.
Pianist Alberto Janz, bassist Emmanuel Vaughan Lee and drummer
Michael Prowaznik join Sandra in a collective effort to create improvised
music through tradition, spirit and daring.
October 26- Sky-A Concert of 20* Century Music — Pianist Yuka Hamano
presents SKY, a contemporary classical music ensemble performing both 3
standard repertoire and original compositions for piano, Shandy Phillips’
violin and Kenji Kikuchi’s clarinet/flute.
October 30- Jazz Vocal Series- Voice department faculty member Maggi .
Scott presents a select group of singers to perform jazz standards
accompanied by a trio.

November 14 — Harry Chalmiers - Harry Chalmiers will be performing on
classical guitar works by Milan, Bach, Sor and others. In addition, e
Margaret Cheng Tuttle will be performing several of Harry’s compositions
for piano solo, including the premier performance of Harry’s latest work
Fear of Flowers.
November 20- Pianists in Recital — The students of Piano Department
professor Ed Bedner perform classical compositions for piano.
November 21- Pierre Favre & Fredy Studer Percussion Duo
Pierre Favre’s and Fredy Studer personal musical relationship exists
since 1970. The musical relationship between Favre and Studer is
contrapuntal, and consists of two independent voices, which complement
each other and thus form a whole. Their music is partly conceptualized
and composed, yet leaves freedom from the element of improvisation.
Their “orchestral” performance emerges from a rich range of sound
colors, fashioned mainly with metal, skins and various small percussion
instruments.
