SPRING 1988
LYNETTE HAWKINS STEPHENS —As part of the Black Music Cele-
bration at Berklee, renowned gospel singer Lynette Hawkins Stephens
will perform with Berklee'’s own Reverence Gospel Ensembie.
Double Concert—ALWAYS/COME SHARE MY LOVE—Alto sax-
ophonist Patt Spears directs a large ensemble in a program of contem-
porary gospel music to open this two part concert. In the second half
vocalist Kimberly Burgin presents rhythm and blues, gospel and big
band styles in various instrumental scttings with special guest vocal-
ist Marlon Saunders.
WOODWIND DEPARTMENT CONCERT—Department Chair-
man Matt Marvuglio presents a concert featuring various combina-
tions of woodwind instruments in different styles. Compositions
by Greg Hopkins, Bud Billings, Bob Myers, Bob Freedman and
Alex Ulanowsky will be featured with both faculty and student solo-
ists from the Woodwind Department. This concert will also pay
tribute to the late alto saxophone great Jimmy Mosher.
Double Concert—XKAPE/THE GO —This concert opens with
original high energy commercial rock performed by XKAPE—Drum-
mer Rob Borg, guitarist Scott Luedke, keyboardist Kirk Roundhouse
and bassist Eric Boz. In the second half alto saxophonist Warren Hill
presents The Go, a quintet performing original modern jazz fusion.
Double Concert—TAKE OFF/IN EUROPINION — Vibist
Toshihiro Akamatsu opens this concert of original compositions for
both sextet and duo settings, with special guest pianist Makoto Ozone.
In the second half, a quartet led by vibist Mathias Haus will perform
original jazz with special guests faculty members Christian Jacob,
piano, and Ian Froman, drums.
STEVE TURRE & THE BERKLEE TROMBONE ENSEMBLE —
‘Trombonist Steve Turre will be featured playing his own music,
standards and compositions by Michael Gibbs, with The Berklee Jazz
‘Trombone Choir, Trombone Department Chairman Tom Plsek, and
faculty professor Phil Wilson and the Berklee Rainbow Band.
LISA JOY BERNSTEIN —BLAST OFF—Commercial Arranging
faculty member Lisa Joy Bernstein presents original pop-rock with
a classical flavor performed by a rhythm section and vocalists.
